Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

The first in an engrossing new series about conflict in the magic modern world—as told by the half-human, half-Faerie D'Artigo sisters—the latest from Galenorn (One Hex of a Wedding) is a whimsical reminder of fantasy's importance in everyday life. Narrator Camille is a good witch with unpredictable powers who runs a Seattle bookstore while working as an Otherworld Intelligence operative, sent Earthside to keep an eye on things. When an operative from the Wayfaerer, a human/Faerie hangout, is killed, Camille springs into action with her sisters Delilah, a werecat, and Menolly, a freshly minted vampire. Tracing the murder back to evil demon leader Shadow Wing, the sisters find evidence of a far-reaching plot, but the Otherworld Intelligence Agency offers no help, stifled by bureaucratic red tape and a nasty Otherworld battle. Galenorn's gallery of rogues is an imaginative delight, each species and personality carefully crafted. Though the plot can drag, effusive characters and pretty writing ("I whispered, and the stars heard me from behind their cloud cover and answered") will lead readers through to the much-anticipated final battle. From Booklist

Half human, half faerie, Camille and her two sisters act as Earthside operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency, a gig they feel is more a way of keeping them at a distance than any promotion. With the Faerie court in disarray and a new demon lord in the Subterranean Realms making a power play to rule the known worlds, the sisters find their shaky magic and their allies the only line of defense. An emerging voice in chick-lit fantasy and mystery, Galenorn, who also writes as India Ink, branches off into romantic territory in the first of her Sisters of the Moon series. Romance readers looking for romance balanced with other elements may be a bit disappointed that the love story ranks a distant second here. However, those who enjoy Kim Harrison or Rachel Caine's Weather Warden series will feel right at home. Well-crafted fantasy abounds here, along with great character chemistry and an old-fashioned gumshoe--detective feel. Nina Davis

5.0 out of 5 stars A Magical Treat!, Nov 22 2006

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Witchling (Mass Market Paperback)
There's nothing better on a cold winter day than a cup of steaming cocoa and a good book WITCHLING definitely qualifies as a good book--one of the best of 2006. And if reading about Camille D'Artigo and her sisters' exploits doesn't get your blood pumping, well you'd better watch out because Moenolly might want a snack. (She's very neat about it, though.)

The book is set in contemporary greater Seattle area and features the three D'Artigo sisters who are half human and half fae. Each has a special gift although because they're half-bloods, their gifts aren't exactly reliable. Camille is a witch, Delilah shapeshifts to a kitty, and Menolly is a vamp. The sisters work for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency and must find another operative's murderer. But when the murder turns into three--demons, that is, things get a little exciting. I really don't want to say much about the plot because each chapter is a discovery, and the reader will want to make that discovery himself.

Who doesn't like murder, suspense, dragons, demons, and a baby gargoyle, all mixed in with a good dose of humor? WITCHLING is an exciting, compelling read. The worldbuilding is incredible and the characters are spellbinding, no pun intended. I heartily recommend this book and am eagerly looking forward to the next in the Sisters of the Moon series, CHANGELING.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting world -- characters not so much, Dec 13 2007
By Rasmub (Edmonton AB Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Witchling (Mass Market Paperback)
The world sounded very interesting, nicely complex -- but the characters really don't develop much. I have three of the books so far -- but they are sitting in my 'maybe' pile -- not an instant 'keeper'.

I have to say my favorite character was the dragon. ;p

4.0 out of 5 stars Good series, Jul 22 2009
This review is from: Witchling (Mass Market Paperback)
The otherworld series (also known as The sisters of the moon series) is established in a world separated in 3 different areas. You got the world as we know it, the otherworld where the feys and likes live and the Subterranean Realms where dark things crawls.
We are spending in the story with 3 narrators:
1st and 4th book are lived by Camille, the oldest of the sisters who is a witch.
2nd and 5th book are presented by Delilah, the middle sister, she's a cat shifter (orange tabby and black panther).
3rd and 6th novels are narrated by Menolly, the youngest and a vampire.
The feys are out of the closest on earthside and the sister work for the fey-FBI and are working to keep things nice and well, but it wasn't nice and well for so long.
A dark character from Subterranean Realms has big plans to invade both earthside and otherworld and because of short-staff issues due to an imminent war in the otherworld the sisters are facing demon ennemies with very little support.

Through the series we follows the sisters adventures with the demons, but also their relation to each other, their friends and let's say, multiple lovers!
Sister of the moon series is very interesting and you really notice the atmosphere related to each sisters as we get deeper in the story. The all have different past, Menolly's is particularly hard. The girls are great because even though they are strong and resourceful they aren't all mighty and it makes them more real to the reader.

I hope I got you curious, the series is real great and the author is lovely and reach-able. It is really worth it believe me =)

The D'Artigo sisters are half-human and half-Faerie and each has their own little eccentricities. Camille is a witch whose spells go bad as often as the go good. Read more
