Product Description

From Amazon.com

At last, the final episode of the gripping Tomorrow series by wildly popular Aussie author John Marsden has crossed the Pacific, and this concluding chapter in the lives of Ellie, Fi, Homer, Kevin, and Lee may be the most exciting one yet. Informed by Colonel Finley that the military is making a move that could be compared to the D-day attack of WWII, the outback teen guerillas know that the end of the bewildering war that changed their lives is drawing near. Armed with plastic explosives and grenades, courtesy of the New Zealand Army, they have been instructed to "spread chaos and confusion behind their (enemy) lines in every way, shape and form." For Ellie and company, this means targeting a hostile refueling station and train tracks. Of course, nothing is ever easy. There are still the feral kids to worry about and the dismal discovery that soldiers have infiltrated Hell, their only secured hiding place in the bush. As The Other Side of Dawn rockets at breakneck speed towards its stunning climax, only one thing is certain: there is no guarantee that any of them will make it through this last conflict alive.

Not a book for new recruits, The Other Side of Dawn will be most enjoyed by those hard-core fans who have been with Ellie and the gang from the beginning. Wirrawee buffs will be rewarded with classic Marsden: teeth-jarring action sequences interspersed with meaningful moments between friends who may not see the sunrise again together. This is a satisfying ending to a smashing good series. (Ages 13 and older) --Jennifer Hubert --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

From Publishers Weekly

Australian author John Marsden's The Other Side of Dawn brings his Tomorrow series to its dramatic conclusion. Bestsellers in Australia, the seven-book series revolves around a dwindling group of teenagers fighting for their lives and Australia's survival against a brutal invading army. Here, as the war enters a final phase, the dangers for narrator Ellie and her friends seem greater than ever. Who among them will find a lasting peace? Ages 12-up.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Other Side of Dawn, Feb 4 2004
By Mary Louise (Brampton, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Other Side of Dawn (Hardcover)
I first discovered this series at 23 when I was living in England, and when I returned to Canada I ended up getting the final two volumes delivered from Australia because I could not wait to read the conclusion.

Several reviewers on this site are disappointed with the ending, but I think it would have been highly unrealistic to have a simplistic, upbeat ending to a war saga. Ellie and her friends do get damaged by their experiences and I was relieved to see that acknowledged. The series is one of the most compelling I've ever read. While the themes do get more mature and the final volume is far more focused on just one character, I found it a satisfying conclusion to a captivating epic.

As a genre label, Young Adult does not have to mean simplistic!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK, I can't believe it's over, May 4 2003
By Arcadia (MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Other Side of Dawn (Hardcover)
This was a great book and the epilogue didn't really give enough. You felt like the characters were real and you wanted to know what happens to them after. It was a realistc ending though. War brings a lot of pain. This book will be a favorite for years to come. It should be one of the book that we read in school and talk about. This series showed that the bond of friendship is the strongest there is.
