Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Drawing on elements from the paranormal world that bestseller Moning (Spell of the Highlander) created in her earlier romances, this suspense novel takes readers on a darker journey, one dominated by the search for a powerful Faery magic and bereft of the romantic magic Moning's fans have come to expect. When MacKayla Lane, an ordinary young woman, travels to Ireland to track down her sister's murderer, she is sucked into an extraordinary world filled with ancient secrets, vampires, assorted Fae nasties and other tough-to-kill beings. In the process, Mac learns of her own unusual talents and finds an unlikely mentor in the wealthy and mysterious Jericho Barrons. Moning's newest foray contains suspense and plenty of setup. Indeed, this reads like a fragment of a larger story, an introduction to character and place that, while entertaining, skims the surface. But it's a compelling world filled with mystery and vivid characters, and this, combined with the hint of sparks between Jericho and Mac, will stoke readers' fervor for Bloodfever, the next installment. From AudioFile

MacKayla Lane searches for her sister's murderer in Ireland. Her only the clue is the Sinsar Dubh, a magical book. When MacKayla meets Jericho Barrons, a man with magical powers, she discovers she can sense the Faeries and other unworldly, scary creatures, including a Faerie prince who ignites her libido with some potentially offensive sex scenes. Joyce Bean captures the beauty, fear, and otherworldliness of Moning's characters. Bean portrays Mac as plucky and self-sufficient and Barrons as all-knowing and powerful. Moning's explicit sex scenes rival those of Laurell K. Hamilton's Meredith Gentry (Faerie) series. While Mac searches for her sister's killer and her heritage as a seer, Barrons takes her on an adventure among the Faeries and other creatures of the night. 5.0 out of 5 stars Catch the FEVER!, Feb 16 2007
This review is from: Darkfever (Hardcover)
This newest installment from author Karen Marie Moning is sensational.
Mac, our heroine, is a young, naive (and even a little bit vain) American woman in Ireland looking into the mysterious death of her elder sister.

Written in the first person, Mac tells us how she suddenly sees the dark side of this beautiful country and has an unpleasant introduction to the Faerie world. Our hero is every bit as attractive, dark and dangerous all true Heroes are but he too has secrets (not revealed in this installment!) and a dark side of his own.

The two protagonists are not even on first name basis in this novel and Darkfever is only the first in what is rumoured to be a 7 novel offering by Ms. Moning. (Bloodfever is next in October 2007) However, as a teaser, Darkfever lays the ground work that certainly had me hooked.

If you are looking for hot love scenes or romance, this novel is not for you in the traditional sense of 'happy endings'. Although, there is certainly 'sexual content' it is not bewteen the two main characters.

The only down sides of this fabulous work is that Ms. Moning relies quite heavily on foreshadowing and frankly, the constant doom and gloom predictions are a bit trying.

If you are looking for an exciting relationship and excitement at every turn, pick this up...but beware...waiting for the next installment is almost....murder! (PS...this book was so good my husband even liked it..)

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST read series!!!, Nov 5 2009

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Darkfever (Mass Market Paperback)
This is book #1 of 5 and it sucked me in right from the get-go. An absolutely brilliant story with unforgettable characters. The Fever world is set in Dublin, Ireland and while I've never been there, I can picture it clearly in my mind's eye. The story includes action, intrigue, suspense and a budding romance leaving me just DYING to know what happens next. I'm hooked! This is one of my top favorite series and a keeper without question! Catch the fever! You'll be glad you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Story, Jun 19 2009
By Avid Reader "Book Lover" (Sherwood Park, AB Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Darkfever (Mass Market Paperback)
This story is about a young woman, Mac, who finds out that her sister has been brutally murdered in Ireland. She sets off to Ireland to discover who killed her sister to seek revenge. While she is there, she discovers that she can see some otherworldly creatures, because she is a sidhe-seer.

This story hooked me immediately, and I would strongly recommend it to people who love a good story.
