I used to be a great fan of Weber, he had very interesting characters with strong writing and punchy action sequences. Unfortunately in the last few years as his fame grew it seems that he isn't getting edited anymore. This book needs to shift 100 pages away from political machination and description to 100 pages of story. At some points I felt like I was reading a transcript from an otherworldly C-SPAN. It was a slow ponderous book which spent most of its time setting up the next one. Too much fat, not enough protein.

I was looking forward very much to this book. I like the diversity of politics, personal , battle and economic stories. What I would have liked is a little my diversity of characters, depth of said characters, and a break in the monotone of the story teller. Not good enough weber, you can do better.
P.S.
With the death of Baen I have noticed a marked decrease in the level of writing of sci-fi. Didn't know editors were so important for an author (some more then others) but now I do.
