At times Isabel's intense dedication to mindfulness borders on the didactic, but love comes to the rescue, nicely illustrating the book's most important philosophical puzzle: how is it that people find real happiness, and what does it have to do with loving rather than thinking? Davina Porter, Alexander McCall Smith, and Isabel Dalhousie are a perfect trio in this third Dalhousie story. Isabel has guests who introduce her to a newly engaged Dallas couple. Narrator Davina Porter skillfully conveys many characters and even more personality types. Her Dallas and Scots accents are exceptional, along with her tone for conversational debates, befitting Isabel's career as a philosopher. With so much romance in the air, both Isabel and her niece, Cat, fall in love, spicing up the plot. A surprise conclusion renders listeners clamoring for more.
