Product Description

From Amazon.com

Preparations for the feast for the Summer of the Golden Rain are underway at Redwall Abbey, and young Mattimeo's mother sets him to work with the other inhabitants. His father, Mathius, is the guardian of Redwall Abbey and it is this fact that puts the young Mattimeo in danger, as the evil Slagar the Fox plots to kidnap him in a bid to shake the very foundations of the Abbey and its inhabitants.

Rip-roaring adventure at its very best, Mattimeo is one of the exquisitely executed and totally bewitching tales in the best-selling Redwall series. Brian Jacques, with his masterly use of language and enviable talent for descriptive prose that transports the reader to the very heart of Redwall, magically weaves an epic tale breathtaking in proportion and design. Utterly addictive, Mattimeo is packed with so much color, passion, fury, and love that it will leave readers desperate for more. --Susan Harrison

From Publishers Weekly

Among the woodland animals absconded from Redwall Abbey by Slagar the fox is Mattimeo, son of the warrior mouse Matthias. PW said, "This final book in the Redwall trilogy is a truly thrilling conclusion to a swashbuckling, heroic adventure. The realistically drawn characters are full of personality." Ages 10-14.

4.0 out of 5 stars Doudle whamy sequel, April 20 2004
By J. P. Suhr "Slagar" (Austin, TX United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Mattimeo (Paperback)
This book has two main Villians instead of one. The evil fox Slagar on a quest for revenge kindnapes Mattimeo the son of Mathisis. Mathisis, along with Basil Stag, Jess , Check and Orland the ax. Must stop the evil threat.

It a double wham because there is another villian in it. The evil raven Iron Beak arrives at redwall and has plans to conjure it. Filled with graphic battles just like it processor.

Will mathisis rescue or will he be doned to slave away in Malrkirs to the day he die. Will reed wall fall to Ironbeak red the book to find out the answers.

5.0 out of 5 stars JACK, Feb 28 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Mattimeo (Paperback)
I'm doing a report on the book Mattimeo. It was published in1990. The aothor is Brian Jacques. He is one of my insparations to write. I think that he is one of the best writers in the world. The main characters are Mattimeo and his dad Mathias.Mathias is the Redall warior.Redwall is an abbey in a country called Mossflower. Mossflower is a big forest, and all of the creatures in it are characters.Mattimeo and Mathias are mice, but that is only one type creature. there are moles, rats, squirles, otters and many more. This wonderful novel is about an evi fox named Slagar the Cruel taking revenge on Mathias by kidnapping Mattimeo and other young redwallers to sell them as slaves, and lure Mathias out of Redwall so he can kill him slowly and paifully to show him the torture he once went through. Slagar had once battled against Mathias, and Mathias won.Mathias had burned Slagars face into a crinkled mess. It looked so horrible that he wore a mask over it. After Slagar kills Mathias by burying him alive Mattimeo solmely swears that he will kill Slagar. But is Mathias really dead?...No!Friends dig him out and join the journey. So they make new friends, and have no idea of what adventures they will go through together. After everything they all get home safe.I think the moral of this story is to never give up, and they learn to use what they have while they have it, and to give respect while they can.Mattimeo changes by becoming braver, stronger, and more obedient to his father Mathias who changes by giving more respect to Mattimeo. Mattimeo ,thebook, is one of fifteen stupendis tales of the series of Redwall.I thought this book was so wonderous because it had so many types of books put into one.It had comedy,a lot of action, and just a bit of sadness. I thought it was so good that I wish it was fifty times longer.I absolutely loved the book Mattimeo.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book, Jun 2 2002
By Shepen "ladysekhmet9" (Iowa, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mattimeo (Paperback)
Mattimeo is the second of Brian Jacques' books I have read, (the first being Redwall) and I have to say I enjoyed Mattimeo more, though they are both wonderful, 5 star examples of children's literature. I think Slagar was a much more convincing adversary: a minor character from one of the previous books with real motives for kidnapping the Abbey children. (Don't get me wrong, Cluny from 'Redwall' was a good villian, but he was one-dimensional, he had no real past or motivation other than the usual "because he's evil and crazy.") The only thing I didn't like was the subplot with General Ironbeak, it felt too much like a rehash of the first book, but with much weaker foes.
Overall this is a good book for children and adults, especially If you like books like 'The Hobbit.'
