From School Library Journal

Grade 2-3?Junie's kindergarten classmates convince her that an invisible monster lives under her bed. Her parents and grandmother are unable to convince her otherwise until Junie hits upon the idea of putting her unflattering school picture under the bed to frighten the monster. In Junie B. Jones Is Not a Crook, the little girl discovers that "finders keepers losers weepers" is not an appealing philosophy when she loses the special gloves her grandfather gave her and the child who finds them doesn't take them to the lost and found. Junie's first-person narration is sprinkled with deliberate grammatical errors and misunderstood word usage in an attempt to show a five-year-old's viewpoint ("I runned home," "They got stoled on purpose."). Precocious use of sophisticated language is also used to achieve an intended humorous effect. The black-and-white, full- and half-page illustrations reflect Junie's cockeyed view of the world and will help attract beginning chapter-book readers. The issues the child is dealing with are right on target for the intended age group, but Junie's personality is more annoying than endearing and the humor lacks freshness and spontaneity. Product Description

Junie B.'s missing mittens are not in the Lost and Found. So when she finds a wonderful pen on the floor, it's only fair that she should get to keep it, right? Right?   This text refers to an alternate Library Binding edition.

2.0étoiles sur 5 Horrible Language Model For Children, Jui 5 2004
Par Un client
While this book has a good moral (you should turn in things you find, otherwise it's stealing), the language this book models is awful. Here are some sentences from the book: "And I runned all over the playground. Then she holded my hand. Somebody stoled my mittens. I weared a grin as soon as I saw this wonderful thing. All of a sudden my face lighted up." While some people may think that Junie B. Jones's mangling of past tense verbs is cute, it does not help children learn proper verb tense. Also, there's a nice stereotype in this book where Junie B. Jones is looking for somebody with a tattoo, because that will indicate who the crook is. Parents and teachers, don't even waste your time.

5.0étoiles sur 5 Junie B Jones Is Not a Crook (#9), Avril 17 2004
Par Un client
Junie B's grandpa gets her new gloves. But then she loses them! Then, she goes to the lost and found, but they are not there. Then she finds a pen that writes four colors, and she doesn't want to put t in the Lost and Found. Does she find her mittens and give the pen to the Lost and Found? Read it to find out.
This book is funny, but it is short. It reminds me of when I bought a big star shaped earring at a garage sale, then one day I wore it to school with a pink heart shaped earring, but when I got inside at recess, my earrings had fallen off. I found the pink one, but I couldn't find the gold star earring. I think somebody took it, and it was never in the Lost and Found. It was my favorite earring and now I'll probably never get one like it and mine had a red star shaped sticker stuck on it, so if I find another it will not be the same. Anyway, this is a good book (...).
