5.0 out of 5 stars An all-Canadian baby book!, Sep 6 2002
By Marie (mom and doula) (Toronto) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
The Mother of All Baby Books is a comprehensive and reassuring guide to baby care. It contains chapters on such all-important topics as preparing for the birth of your baby, shopping for baby (i.e. what you need and what is likely to end up being a complete waste of money), what newborn babies really look like, infant behaviour (sleeping, crying vs. colic), infant development, newborn health, breastfeeding and introducing solid foods, coping with the stress of being a new parent, how having a baby changes your relationship with your partner, how to tell when your baby is sick enough to need to require medical attention, and much more. Like the other two books in the "Mother of All series" (The Mother of All Pregnancy Books and The Mother of All Toddler Books), The Mother of All Baby Books includes a detailed glossary, a directory of Canadian health and parenting associations/organizations, leads on the best Canadian health and parenting web sites, Canadian immunization information, baby growth charts, and much more. This -- along with a copy of the children's book Goodnight Moon -- is my baby gift of choice for new parents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Balanced and honest, Jul 23 2009
Disclaimer: I am still pregnant with my first child and am not a mom yet, so this book's advice is untested. However, it seemed to be a well-researched and balanced voice in the midst of the Ferber-eque vs attachment parenting religious wars. Both sides of so many issues, such as feeding (breast vs formula) to sleeping (cosleeping vs separate room ), were presented with gentle humor, understanding, and honest research. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy read, very informative, Jan 6 2009
By Sterling8080 (Markham, ON) - See all my reviews
I love that this book was written for Canadian parents. That was the main reason I purchased this book. Once it arrived I noticed how thick the book was and I admit I was hesitant to start reading it because who wants to read an encyclopedia front to back. Well, don't be fooled by the number of pages. It's an easy read, and because it's packed full of information you'll be hard pressed to put the book down. The information is very relevant and the author offers different viewpoints and perspectives on a lot of issues. I also like how she quotes real moms throughout the book. I highly recommend this book to all Canadian parents. It's a must read.
