Product Description

Ten years ago, Janet Woititz broke new ground in our understanding of what it is to be an Adult Child of an Alcoholic. Today she re-examines the movement and its inclusion of Adult Children from various dysfunctional family backgrounds who share the same characteristics. After more than ten years of working with ACoAs she shares the recovery hints that she has found to work. Read Adult Children of Alcoholics to see where the journey began and for ideas on where to go from here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and enlightening., Jan 22 1999
By A Customer
I stumbled onto this book by chance. The title caught my attention since I am a child of an alcoholic. It was twilight zone weird how much this book was able to describe aspects of me. The knowlegde gained about yourself and how to help improve yourself is wonderful. I now have a better understanding of why I have done some of the things I've done and not liked. I am hopeful that I will be able to build and improve myself as an individual using some of the tools presented in this book. Even if you are not a child of an alcoholic, this book is an excellent source of information. It has been very enlightening.

5.0 out of 5 stars So many . . ., Aug 11 2004
By A Customer
For years I would read books or see movies and think to myself, "Yeah, so? What are they complaining about?" It was always some dysfunctional family with secrets like "Prince of Tides" or McCrae's "The Bark of the Dogwood." Now I realize just how messed up the characters in those books and movies were/are. But back then I was unable to see it. Now, with the help of therapy and books such as "Adult Children," I can see the destructive patterns in myself and others. The good news is that this book and many others are out there to help people like me. The bad news is that books like this are still selling and quite well. What does that say about our society? But I don't mean to put down the fact that this book is still around for it helped me and countless others that I know. This is a great place to start if you're becoming aware of the destructive tendencies you may have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, very helpful, Mar 31 2003
By Chris (formerly of Etton, nr Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, England) - See all my reviews
Every ACA to whom I've given this book tells me, after they've read it, "That's me." Perhaps the greatest advantage to this book is the ability it gives the reader to understand the often paradoxical world of the ACA.
