5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, May 10 2004
By rrrob (netherlands) - See all my reviews
This is the type of book I was looking for. It was very well-written and there was not one page that didn't interest me.
I was a little skeptical at first but the story quickly got very exciting.
If you like the pre-history genre, this is a must-read.

3.0 out of 5 stars An equal to its first......., Mar 18 2004
By Chelsea G. Humphrey (Hampton, VA USA) - See all my reviews
I rated People of the Wolf four stars, but this book was basically a repeat. I read the book thinking that it was going to have a different ending but I was mistaken. It was just the same. At least Fire Dancer had at least a couple of years in real happiness, but I felt so bad for his wife who still after all that time waited for her beloved. It was still a great book. Wonderful theories on prehistory, great details and descriptions and once again strong characters. But it needed a twist to set itself apart from the first book. I loved Tanager. She didn't need some bad thing to happen to her before she became strong. She was an amazing woman who in her time of weakness showed inner strength to whom many can appreciate. But again Fire Dancer was Wolf Dreamer in another world and Tanager and Fox Dancer were also the same.

2.0 out of 5 stars Warning -- don't read after the Anasazi Mystery series., Mar 24 2002
By A Customer
I first read the Gears' Anasazi mystery series -- The Visitant, the Summoning God, Bonewalker. I'd rate those novels 5+ stars, and I've recommended them to a number of friends who have also bought the series. Because the books refer to stories that began in "The People Of..." series, I then bought People of the Silence, which I also enjoyed. On recommendation of another friend, I bought the rest of the People of... series. The first book (People of the Wolf) was well paced and included natural history, just as the Anasazi mysteries did. However, this 2nd book -- People of the Fire -- could have been tightened up and presented in half of its nearly 500 pages. Although the story line was interesting, it became repetitive with too many pages between surprises or crises. I'm throwing out this book rather than passing it on to friends. Not meaning to sound completely negative. I just think I would have enjoyed this book more had I not already read the exciting & action-packed Anasazi Mystery series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the other books in the series.
