From Library Journal
Welcome a bright new light in the Regency heavens. Though the plot is minimal, the dialogue is witty and sprightly. Isabella Latham, wealthy spinster of 26, comes to London to oversee the come-out of her two young cousins. The Latham fortune was made in trade; however, as niece of the Earl of Belcomb, that fact is immaterial. Still, Isabella believes that Edward, Earl of Hartleigh, is out of her reach. Edward and his seven-year-old ward know otherwise. Villain of the piece is the Earl's cousin, Basil, who is hanging out for a rich wife. With her excellent characterizations, Chase might be the long-awaited successor to Georgette Heyer. Highly recommended. Paula M. Zieselman, Sarah Lawrence Coll. Lib., Bronxville, N.Y. vb.21
