From Library Journal

This duo continue the adventures of Anne Shirley begun in Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables. Avonlea (1909) finds her at 16 taking on a job as a school teacher, while in Island (1915), a slightly older Anne moves on to college to continue her own education. Along with the full text, these editions also include scholarly essays. These budget hardcovers are for all fiction collections.

From AudioFile

The famous red-haired orphan, ANNE OF GREEN GABLES is back, grown up and ready to start her first teaching job at the village school. Her best friend, her adopted mother, and her neighbor all share in her spirited adventures. Liza Ross sounds whiny as the eccentric Mr. Harrison, but she does well with most of the other parts. However, the listener may find it difficult to distinguish between Harrison's voice and that of Anne's adoptive mother. Anne's energy and verve project well, as does her mother's reserve and aloofness. Rapid violin music denotes chapter breaks. Timeless and sweet, this is a keeper. Like the first Anne book, Anne of Green Gables, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. And though many think these books sentimental mush, I seemed to garner a lot from reading them.

They teach me to see God in new and exciting ways - to see God more in Nature and the world around me that He has created - to look for the best in all people I meet, especially those who are hard to like, ie Mrs. Rachael Lynd and Mr. Harrison. We have to learn to see past the exterior to see the person inside.

This review is from: Anne of Avonlea (Audio CD)
It was a good audio book but I prefered the Anne of Green Gables audio I had previously purchased which used many actors to act out the story. This was one woman reading the book and it didn't have the same depth to it. I have become used to the excellent way the BBC handles their audio books and this was not as good. My grand daughter loved listening to it though

5.0étoiles sur 5 Beautiful Sequel, Oct. 28 2003
This is just a wonderful sequel to Anne of Green Gables. It deals with Anne's life after returning to Avonlea to teach and before she goes off to college. Seeing Anne begin to come into adulthood is exciting and yet a little sad. It is exciting to see her deal with the new challenges from being a school teacher and inspiring her students to starting the Avonlea Village Improvement Society (to which there is some resistance from the Avonlea elders at first). Anne is still of course a kindred spirit, but it seems that she is mellowing as she matures (which was is just a touch sad, but as Mr. Henderson says, all things must change). For anyone who liked the first book, this is sure to not disappoint.
