Product Description

Ingram

Here is the extraordinary story of the last and greatest native civilization of North America, at the height of its magnificent. It is a story told in the words of one of the most robust and memorable characters in modern fiction. His name is Mixtil--Dark Cloud. Rising above his lowly station, Mixtil distinguishes himself as a scribe and later a warrior. He earns a fortune as a traveling merchant, exploring every part of what the Aztecs called The One World--the far lands of mountains, jungles, deserts, seacoasts.

You learn quite a lot about the aztec civilization along with a great read. I read this quite a long time ago and it still sticks in my head. I am making a review as I came back to find a copy so I could re-read it. It denfinetly is a page turner and yes I never wanted it to end.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Some books should never end, this is one of them!, Aug 1 2006
By MJH ALTA (Alberta) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Aztec (Hardcover)
In my top ten reads of all time. Possibly the best historical fiction novel ever written. Only Colleen McCulloughs Roman series is equal or better. This book has it all, romance, sex, great battles, mystery, and so many things to discover about this incredible but bloody civilization. There are no boring parts, it tears along like a Jaquar on the prowl. This book will have you in tears or feeling elated or wondering whats next. If you read about the Aztecs and how Cortez conquered them in the Encyclopedia Britanica you will not understand what really happened. It is in my collection and I will continue to read it again and again as the years go by, it is that satisfying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best book I ever read., Jun 25 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Aztec (Mass Market Paperback)
In 40 years of reading, I go back to this one as the hallmark of entertainment & historical fiction. I've reread it,and I've bought copies just so I could give them away! If the author, Gary Jennings, were still alive today, he would be the the one author I'd buy the day his books came out. A wonderful wonderful book; trust me. You'll have a hard time getting into the beginning, the letters, but at some point you don't notice you'll be in Mexico with Mixtli. I was 32 when I read it the first time, and 39 when I read it the last time. It will always be the first book that pops into my mind when someone asks, "What was your favorite book?".
