From Publishers Weekly

Graham's latest romantic suspense novel is the first of a trilogy set in the fantasy-drenched world of TV soap operas. When Hollywood legend Abby Sawyer develops severe Parkinson's disease, her daughter, soap star Jennifer Connolly, moves into the historic but slightly creepy Granger House to be by her side. What Jennifer doesn't know is that Abby's stepson, actor Conar MarkhamAa longtime thorn in Jennifer's sideAis not only going to be starring opposite her on the soap but is living in Granger House as well. Abby has secretly contrived Conar's new role to make it possible for him to watch over Jennifer, whom Abby is convinced is in danger from a threatening stalker. Naturally, Conar and Jennifer's sudden togetherness generates both conflict and sexual tension. When the soap's producers stage a Hitchcockian shower scene that eerily mimics a rash of real serial killings, matters come to a head. Graham (Tall, Dark, and Deadly) cleverly brings together classic elements of B-movie suspense (from secret stairways to screams in the night) with an appealing, if not entirely accurate, look behind the Hollywood set. The mystery plot, however, lacks both cohesiveness and tensionAdespite Abby's oft-repeated worries, Jennifer is never directly in peril until very late in the bookAand there's little true conflict in the romance, leaving it rather flat as well. 5.0étoiles sur 5 Another winner by Heather Graham!, Mai 25 2001
Par Katt (Tucson, AZ United States) - Voir tous mes commentaires
Ce commentaire est de: Long Lean And Lethal (Paperback)
If have never read a Heather Graham mystery/romance book, then you are really missing out! I love her writing style, it's the perfect mix of suspense and mystery with a dash of romance thrown in for fun!

This book, the first of a trilogy, takes place on the set of Valentine Valley, a popular day time soap. Jennifer Connolly has become a daytime diva almost overnight, but somewhere in the background a killer is stalking the show. He's killing his victims with refrence to Hitchcock movies and, of course almost every character in this book likes Hitchcock! Aside from the killings, this book also has several sub plots. Jennifer has fallen hard for her co-star, Conor Markham and also has to deal with her mother's failing health.

My only complaint is how immature these characters acted at times! Getting into fights and then slamming doors and stomping off down the hallway, for example. It reminds me of how I acted as a teenager, trying to irk my mom, not as an adult! Over all, this was a really fun, quick read though. I liked it so much that after I finished it, I immediately started reading Dying to Have Her.

3.0étoiles sur 5 SOAP OPERA MURDER, Mars 19 2001
Par Mary Allen "Mary B Allen" (HARRISBURG, PA United States) - Voir tous mes commentaires
(REAL NAME)
Ce commentaire est de: Long Lean And Lethal (Paperback)
LONG, LEAN AND LEATHAL was an average read, not great, but not bad. Someone is murdering people associated with the soap opera, Valentine Valley, copying the style of Alfred Hitchcock. It appears that the beautiful actress, Jennifer, is next on the list to meet her movie-style end. A large cast of characters with varying reasons to commit murder keeps the reader interested and guessing. A romance develops between Jennifer and the previously, much-despised Conar, which will prove beneficial in the end. A strong point to this story is that I could not guess the murderer until it was revealed. Then everything fell neatly into place. A negative is that there did not appear to be a connection between the story and the title.

1.0étoiles sur 5 Sorry, but this book STUNK !, Déc 3 2000
Par Un client

This one was worse than the other Heather Graham romantic suspense novels I read, the title of which I can't even remember! Even more so than the other one I read, this one was written extremely simplistically, almost on a young-adult level. I don't like this author's style of writing, at least her contemporary-romance-suspense novels. And this one had a stupid story, with no development of the characters, so I couldn't care less about any of them. The twist at the end, while a surprise to me, was, well, stupid. The character who turned out to be the "bad guy" and why he was the bad guy were contrived. It seemed like the author wrote herself into a corner and "had" no choice when it came down to who turned out to be her ultimate "bad guy" and why. I would steer clear of this author for contemporary romantic suspense.
