Product Description

From Amazon.com

One person's erotic stimulation is another person's excuse to say, "I'm outta here." A study of neurological cycles, imprinting, and primal needs shows how people form their own unique recipes for love. Hardly any garment or activity escapes Brenda Love's encyclopedia. Writing exhaustively and without bias, Love has created a reference source for those intrigued with the full range of human sexual expression. To enrich the content of more than 750 entries, she has consulted with or quoted from, wherever possible, the practitioners.

Readers learn about such "practices" as concubinage, mock marriages, power tools (including a list of those suitable for sex games), sadism, and suturing. The entries, along with 150 original illustrations, are certain to expand both your consciousness and your vocabulary: you will learn about flatuphiles, fornicatory dolls, and frottage, plus infibulation (surgical closure of the labia) and inunction (using lotion for arousal). In this entertaining guide through sexual facts and fancies, Brenda Love--licensed pilot, skydiver, and columnist--writes: "It is the aim of the encyclopedia to provide objective information about how human beings behave; where you draw the line must be your own informed choice." --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From Library Journal

Chances are this book won't stay on the shelf long; browsers, voyeurs, and, especially, censors will be attracted by its title. What they will discover is an odd assortment of 700 entries, ranging from the ordinary (birth control) to the ridiculous (pie throwing) and the perverse (power tools, whipping workshops). A large number of the entries refer to sadomasochistic activities, and an introductory note warns that some of the listed activities may be dangerous or lethal. The book's advisory board includes a "kinky" blacksmith and the slave of an "understanding Master." All in all, a marginal purchase for public libraries. 5.0 out of 5 stars Answered all questions and then some..., Dec 2 2003
By A. Kassoff "kassoff" (Danville, KY) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Love (appropriately named) and Mavrides did an excellent job compiling this handy little coffee table book. I bought this while on vacation and my husband and I were intensely aroused with some of the obscure methods of sexual pleasure that were noted in this book. If you are the least bit interested in things that are "different," then I would highly recommend this gem!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Dictionary of Kinks for Nillas and Kinksters Alike!, Mar 18 2002
By Blonde Goddess BBW (Albuquerque, New Mexico United States) - See all my reviews
I "stumbled" over the on-line version of this book and just had to have it. I am the FemDomme Founder and Creator of some great FemDomme on-line clubs and have a weekly fetish discussion topic. After coming up with a year's plus topics, I was wanting to "dig a little deeper" and get some more ideas. This is a fantastic book. If you are conservative, this book will make you feel even more "normal", but you will certainly be better informed. If you are an "alternative lifestyler", you'll feel like whatever you're into still isn't the absolutely gamut of kinky!! Even I went EEEUUUUWWW a couple of times and I've been a FemDomme for over 16 years!! It has obviously been researched extensively, is written in a technical vein with a kink-friendly slant, and emphasizes all of the safety issues. Perhaps a better title might have been "Dictionary", than "Encyclopedia", however it is well worth the money and much cheaper than buying access to it on-line for two months.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite Encyclopedia caliber, Feb 24 2002
By TammyJo Eckhart "TammyJo Eckhart" (Bloomington, Indiana United States) - See all my reviews
When I think "encylopedia" I think entire sets or series of books. This is more like a dictionary of sexual practices. There is an attempt to provide context, historical and contemporary, but not always as fully or as clearly as you might like. Why is it "unusual"? Because a wide range of sexual activities and interests are covered that may not be strange to you or in your society but which could be rare or taboo for others. There is a good index so you can find things fairly easily and it is fun to read. Overall you come away knowing that the weird thing you did last night, really isn't all that weird.
