From Amazon.com

Originally broadcast on PBS in 1993 and narrated by Leslie Nielsen, this comprehensive documentary charts the career of the Marx Brothers--Groucho, Harpo, Chico, and sometimes Zeppo--from their beginnings on the vaudeville circuit to their final appearances on popular TV programs and commercials of the 1950s and early '60s. Featuring interviews with many surviving family members, friends, and close associates, the film covers the brothers' early stage careers in great detail, including the origins of their stage names and rare film footage of a sketch from one of their most popular comedy plays. Also fascinating is a long-lost film clip of Harpo in a silent film from 1925--four years before the Marx Brothers made their screen debut in Cocoanuts. The Marx Brothers' film career is not the central focus here. Rather, the film shows us the brothers offscreen (through rare home movies and newsreels) and especially after their retirement from movies. Revealing and affectionate toward its subjects, this is a must-see for any Marx Brothers fan. The DVD includes several hilarious outtakes from Groucho's quiz-show career as host of You Bet Your Life, and a "Zoom-links" feature that offers additional film clips at given points throughout the documentary. --Jeff Shannon

3.0étoiles sur 5 Whyaduck!??, Mars 4 2004

(REAL NAME)
Well, I bought this DVD to replace the VHS version I own. Imagine my surprise when I find out the DVD is a completely re-
edited version of the tape! So now both versions have material exclusive of each other as well as repeating segments. Talk about a lame duck! It's like having a mother-in-law move in- you can't get rid of her. So I need to make room for both! The tape version has some great Marx Bros cartoon characters, the movie trailers, and even different clips from material shown on the DVD. Once again, the idiots at Winstar screw up (see my comment on Bastard Out Of Carolina). What would I give to have them stand at the wrong end of a shooting gallery; I'd horsewhip them if I had a horse....

4.0étoiles sur 5 Who?, Janv. 14 2004
To all fans of the Marx Brothers, I don't see why you shouldn't watch this DVD. However, this is not the meaty biography you may be expecting. If you really want to learn about the Marx brothers, I recommend reading the books Harpo Speaks and Groucho and Me. What this DVD does give you, however, is a look at some of their work which never made it far. That is, rare and exclusive clips. The DVD seems to focus too much on Groucho, though, which can be good or bad. But overall, it was fun to watch. I learned little more than what I already know, but every bit of new Marx brothers material I can get my hands on is worth watching at least once.

3.0étoiles sur 5 Could Have Been So Much Better, Janv. 2 2004
I have seen all of the Marx Brothers movies except for Love Happy (which I heard was unfortunately not that great). I got this DVD for Christmas and really enjoyed it. It shows a lot of Marx tv segments, which are very funny and enjoyable. Unfortunately, even though there is a great deal of information, there is a lot that has been omitted which probably help improve the quality of the documentary. It mentions the Algonquin once, barely speaks of Zeppo or Gummo, and doesn't even discuss the movies that much either. It may say one or two things about The Cocoanuts and Animal Crackers, but says nothing at all about some films such as Monkey Business or Love Happy. Anothers thing is that it rarely even mentions the brothers personal lives. Overall it is a good DVD, but it is sadly almost as much of a dissapointment as it is a joy.
