3.0 out of 5 stars If you like Spider-Man and Carnage, this'll work for you, July 9 2004
By John Craig (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
The characters all function in the same fashion here as they do in the comics, right down to their powers/attitudes/etc. Except Spider-Man and Carnage. I've never been a huge fan of Carnage because, while he looks cool, he's basically another Venom (only "crazier"). But I can enjoy him for what he is... Anyway, there's a scene where Spider-Man is fighting Carnage high atop a bridge, and Carnage manages to get a surprise attack on Spidey by leaping from behind a strut or some such thing. Fine, you'd think Spidey would be dead. But nooo, his Spider-Sense kicks in and he avoids the lunge. Spider-Sense doesn't work on Carnage (or Venom) because the Venom costume/sybiote was once bonded to Peter Parker... Oh nevermind. Carnage also doesn't act as psychotic as he normall does, but I can forgivwe that. It's the "almost dead Spidey saved by his Spider-Sense that shouldn't have saved him" that raelly bugs me. What can I say? I'm a stickler for things like that. Overall; worth a read, but only if you like Spider-Man, Carnage, and a Green Goblin.

5.0 out of 5 stars for spidey fans primarily, Aug 24 2002

(REAL NAME)
Okay first of all you should only really read this book if your a spiderman fan, but i suppose if you're lookin for something new and you don't know if you want to read this i would still reccomend it, but if you are not that interested, don't bother because even though i loved it, i love pretty much anything with spiderman so if you aren't a big fan i suppose you can pass it up. it gives an in depth descripton and out look on carnage one of my favorite two villians (the other being venom, both have the alien symbioent "costumes"). it's actually quite gruesome at least when carnage is the focus of the writing so if you don't much like violence in literature, i wouldn't ever read anything with carnage in it. i also reccomend Goblin's Revenge the novel that takes place right after this one, which is also a book by Dean Wesley Smith, possibly my favorite author, who does a lot of work on Marvel character novels. so if you are a big fan, get this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Spider-sense????, July 7 2002
By "anansi_864" (Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada) - See all my reviews
I thought the book was great, Carnage is one of the scariest super-villains Spidey's ever faced, and the whole plot of the book was great. The writing, however, suffered a bit, as I noticed a lot of repetition and other small things that took away from the story. At the end I was left feeling like there should have been more, like the story could have been better, but I was still satisfied; after all, it is a Spider-Man book!
One thing that really annoyed me while I read, however, is that Spidey was clearly able to use his spider-sense to dodge Carnage's attacks, etc. But, because the alien symbiote which turned Cletus Kasady into Carnage was once joined with Spider-Man, its presence doesn't set off the wall-crawler's spider-sense, allowing Carnage to sneak up on Spidey. He should not have been able to sense Carnage's attacks coming, and his spider-sense should have been useless around him. I thought that was a real glaring error made on the part of the authors that should not have been there. But, if you can put that aside, you will find that while this isn't the best Spider-Man book out there, it is still a pretty good read.

A very well written book. The characters were believable. Spidey has his hands full with Carnage. Carnage is actually a super-villain in many respects. Read more
