Product Description

Product Description

Knitting has been called "the hot new hobby" and "the new yoga." More women - and men - are knitting today than in many decades. More knitters than ever are demanding quick projects that provide creative fulfillment and relaxation and suit today's busy lifestyles. Weekend Knitting answers their call with 50 original projects from simple slippers to cozy mittens and chair covers. Weekend Knitting Projects is beautifully photographed on locations to evoke the relaxing weekend knitters long for, with beautiful scenery, fresh air, friends, and delicious food. All of the projects are presented in full color photos and some are shown in more than one color option. The book is sprinkled with knitting trivia, quotes about knitting, relaxation techniques, and balanced living. Recipes for treats such as hot cocoa and shortbread are also included, as are sidebars about relaxation activities such as how to give a hand massage and brewing the perfect pot of tea - making Weekend Knitting the book about the knitting lifestyle.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a keeper, Dec 2 2005
By Heather Brady (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
I've had this on my wish list for a while, but finally decided to just get it out of the library. I was quite disappointed with the projects, many of which are useless (six pages devoted to egg cozies??). There were probably two patterns I would actually consider making in the entire book, namely the cashmere sweater and the fingerless gloves. The pictures and layout are nice, but there's not much useful info here-- all style, no substance.

Fine for a library loan, but definitely not a "keeper".

2.0 out of 5 stars Egg cozies in 2004?, Jan 18 2004
By A Customer
In great-grandma's day I imagine that there was time to knit finger puppets, "egg cozies" and checker boards. Today, however, time (especially for knitting) is precious. Perhaps that explains why my enthusiasm for a book called "Weekend Knitting" quickly turned to disappointment. I was looking forward to useful knitting projects (yes, I realize how pragmatic and "un-creative" that sounds) such as sweaters, scarves and hats, slippers, and luscious afghans; and although there were a few of these projects, there also seemed to be a good deal of repetition such as page after page of mittens with little or no variation. I knit for the love of knitting, but when I invest my time and energy I want to have something substantial and beautiful to show for it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Much Harder Than I Expected, Jun 15 2004
By A Customer
I am a new knitter. I thought this book would have alot more easy projects than it actually does. If you are an experienced knitter, maybe you could use it, but it is too tough for me. Many of the instructions seem unclear. I'll hold on to it, though. Maybe in a couple years I'll find it useful, but for now, it will sit on the shelf.
