From Amazon.com

Setting: Regency England

Sensuality: 7

Penelope Featherington fell madly, hopelessly in love with Colin Bridgerton two days before her 16th birthday. Unfortunately, Colin has always seen Penelope as the plump, shy best friend of his younger sister. By the time Penelope is 28 and a seasoned member of the English ton, she's accepted that her love for Colin is destined to remain unrequited and she shall be a spinster forever. Fate, however, has other plans. When Lady Whistledown's Society Papers announce that Colin has returned from his nearly nonstop travels, Penelope is blissfully unaware that her life is about to change dramatically. Colin is equally unaware of the turn his life is about to take. He's not surprised that his beloved mother is determined to marry him off, but he's rather astonished to find himself inexplicably drawn to Penelope. Her dry wit and intelligent mind are delightful, and Colin soon finds himself joining forces with her to deflect his matchmaking mama's good intentions. Together, the two will thwart their mothers' iron wills, face the formidable Lady Danbury, confront the gossips of London society, and resolve the lovely dilemma of falling in love. And, oh yes, there is that matter of the true identity of Lady Whistledown. Will the twosome unmask the elusive journalist? Or will their efforts be doomed to failure like so many others' before?

Romancing Mr. Bridgerton continues author Julia Quinn's wildly popular series of Regency historicals featuring the Bridgerton family, The Duke and I, The Viscount Who Loved Me, and An Offer from a Gentleman. True, the novel possesses all that we've come to expect from Quinn, including deft plotting, witty repartee, a faultless Regency setting, and expert characterization. But perhaps the book's most pleasing facet is Quinn's quietly nuanced handling of the hero's and the heroine's internal growth, which is furthered by their blooming relationship. They're two strong individuals made stronger by their bond. Now that's love. --Lois Faye Dyer --This text refers to the Mass Market Paperback edition.

Product Description

Penelope Featherington has secretly adored her best friend's brother for . . . well, it feels like forever. After half a lifetime of watching Colin Bridgerton from afar, she thinks she knows everything about him, until she stumbles across his deepest secret . . . and fears she doesn't know him at all.

Colin Bridgerton is tired of being thought nothing but an empty-headed charmer, tired of everyone's preoccupation with the notorious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown, who can't seem to publish an edition without mentioning him in the first paragraph. But when Colin returns to London from a trop aboard he discovers notyhing in his life is quite the same—especially Penelope Featherington! The girl haunting his dreams. But when he discovers that Penelope has secrets of her own, this elusive bachelor must decide . . . is she his biggest threat—or his promise of a happy ending?

5.0 out of 5 stars funny wonderful, Jul 9 2004
By A Customer
i must say i really enjoyed this book right from the beginning and it is a great read. Penolope and Colin are such a fine match. Colin is so charming and Penelope may act a bit shy in the first place but she turned as witty as any woman who doesn't make their debut in society much. All in all this book is great and I highly reccomend it to anyone who haven't got one of the taste from quinn's best book.

5.0 out of 5 stars To Colin, the coolest Bridgerton brother, May 9 2004
By KenichiKat (fort wayne, in) - See all my reviews
Perhaps Penelope Featherington is the ancestor of the loser-heroine who finally got the best of the bunch! Sure, Anthony and Benedict Bridgerton are both handsome, charismatic, rich and gorgeous but the best of the Bridgerton men is Colin. Why? He has a very good sense of humor, totally cool and totally clueless that his one match in all the world is just the one person he never thought he would want to marry: his sister's best friend Penelope Featherington. Penelope started out as an awkward teenager who is used to being a wallflower, who is usually rescued by the Bridgerton brothers from embarrassment in all the balls, and who secretly loves Colin Bridgerton.

Colin might be clueless in how Penelope felt about him and how he felt for her but his feelings developed in a realistic way. He came to appreciate Penelope not only for her looks but also for her intellect, her wit, her personality --now how many men in this lifetime still has this trait? "Romancing Mr. Bridgerton" is a must read for people who still believe that love is not only skin deep.

5.0 out of 5 stars great regency romance, Mar 29 2004
By S. Lin "SL" (Wellesley, MA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Colin Bridgerton is without a doubt, THE most charming man in all of London. With one look at his devilish grin or his beautiful green eyes, the women fall at his feet. And with his glib mouth, he can get out of almost anything. Until one day, speaking out of frustration, he claims that he will never marry Penelope Featherington, in PUBLIC! What's even worse is that Penelope heard!

Now years later, after having travelled extensively throughout Europe, the irresistable Mr. Bridgerton is back in London for the season, at the age of 33, while Penelope has become a spinster at the 28.

But somehow, things aren't the same. When Colin looks at Penelope, he's struck by how big her eyes are and what a dreamy shade of brown they appear to be and how voluptous her body is. Not to mention how intelligent and funny and witty and kind she is. All in all, he's coming to realize what an amazing woman she truly is...

Penelope, on the other hand, has known how amazing Colin was since 2 days before her 16th birthday. And she is surprised that he would even express such interest in her, let alone ask for her hand in marriage! But Colin knows that Penelope is the woman for him, had been the woman all those years when he had failed to give her a second glance and only danced with her out of pity. And now he's determined to make up all those years of blindness.

The mysterious identity of Lady Whistledown is revealed here, even though I think that any avid reader of the Bridgerton series would have figured it out by the second book.

It's a pleasure to read.
