Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

This rewarding Regency-era anthology is connected by Quinn's popular gossip columnist, Lady Whistledown, who appeared in her previous novel, Romancing Mister Bridgerton. Each short romance features commentary from the society snoop and unfurls over the weeks leading up to Valentine's Day, 1814. Characters meet, plots intersect, and cleverly, each author includes the same skating party (shown from the perspective of the four couples). Though all of the authors hold their own in this collection, Enoch's tale of a young woman who resists a childhood betrothal until her long-absent fiance returns to make her reconsider is the strongest. Quinn also delivers a tasty confection about a young lady suddenly wooed by two brothers. Hawkins's romance between an eccentric spinster and an amiable rake is the most traditional of the lot, while Ryan stretches the bounds of the genre with a hero whose odd behavior stems from more than simple eccentricity. All in all, these Regency bonbons are filled with the wit and charm that mark the authors' full-length novels, yet they still contain enough passion to keep wintry readers warm. A wonderful introduction to the contributors' work, this is a perfect Valentine for romance readers.

Lady Whistledown Tells All!

Society is abuzz when the Season's most promising debutante is jilted by her intended -- only to be swept away by the deceitful rogue's dashing older brother -- in New York Times bestseller Julia Quinn's witty, charming, and heartfelt tale.

When the scandalous actions of his beautiful fiancée are recorded in Lady Whistledown's column, a concerned groom-to-be rushes back to London to win his lady's heart once and forever, in Suzanne Enoch's enchanting romantic gem.

Karen Hawkins captivates with an enduring story of a handsome rogue whose lifelong friendship -- and his heart -- are tested when the lovely lady in question sets her cap for someone else.

A dazzling and delightful tale by Mia Ryan has a young woman cast out of her home by an insufferable yet charming marquis -- who intends to take possession not only of the house ... but its former occupant as well!

4.0 out of 5 stars Delightful and charming; Nothing soul stirring though., Jun 19 2004
By A Customer
So many anthologies contain abysmal stories that I began this one with great trepidation - but found myself in the middle of some enjoyable and charming romances! I loved the tie-in of each story to a skating party and a Valentine ball. I loved the "observations" of Lady Whistledown. I greatly admired her in all the Quinn Bridgerton novels. Each story was so unique and some had unique heroes and heroines. I will not recite what each story was about - other reviewers have done that quite adequately.

My favorite and the one I felt was different from the usual genre was Mia Ryan's "A Dozen Kisses." What a sweet, touching romance between a wounded (in the head - not physically showing) Lord and a rather sad, wounded (by circumstances) young woman. Linney and Terrance were enchanting to get to know in this rather short entry! I truly wished it was longer, just because I wanted more!

All the other stories stood out in various ways. I forgot that I was not reading a Regency anthology as each heroine found themselves in ummm ... various compromising positions with their loves ... so keep in mind this is not a "G" rated anthology. None of the stories stirred my soul, but it is hard to do that in the limited pages given each storyline. Highly recommend this, especially for those who just can't get enough of Lady Whistledown.

5.0 out of 5 stars TOO SHORT! :), May 2 2004
By Alena "alenabean" (New York, NY USA) - See all my reviews
I loved this book, but short stories drive me crazy because I always want to read more about each character. I love how they interweaved all the characters!! That was so cute. If I remember correctly I liked Quinn and Ryan's stories the most and I think that I liked Hawkings's the least. But they were all really cute! "Lady Whistledown Strikes Back" has recently come out and features the same authors. This book is a cute spin-off (bad word, but I don't know how else to describe it) from the Bridgerton series - it is in the Bridgerton novel "Romancing Mr.Bridgerton" where Lady Whistledown's true identity is finally revealed.

1.0 out of 5 stars stay away for georgette heyer fans, Feb 9 2004
By A Customer
Neither the vocabulary nor the writing suggests anything that is even remotely quality penmanship. Hardly any research seems to have been done on the customs of the regency before the author(s) decided to ambitiously embark on writing about it. For all the propriety of the period, Ms Enoch's hero and herione seem to have none.
Very poor writing that reminds one more of the steamy novels that are a dime a dozen. If you like that kind of work then this book is for you. For a quality read and writing that reflects the authors true interest and painstaking research on the period being written about read anything by Georgette Heyer or even Clare Darcy.
