From Publishers Weekly

In this perky mystery complete with toothsome hi-cal recipes, Davidson ( Catering to Nobody ) brings back Goldy Bear, the cherubic culinary sleuth with Shirley Temple curls. Fleeing her abusive ex-spouse, a physician she dubs "The Jerk," Goldy and her teenage son Arch find a snug third-floor refuge in the Aspen Meadow, Colo., mansion of quirky Gen. Bo Farquhar, a retired munitions and terrorist pro who breezily detonates bombs while gardening and bird-watching. As the general's live-in gourmet cook, Goldly still has time to run Goldilocks' Catering and juggle two suitors--attractive psychiatrist Philip Miller and comfortably chubby cop Tom Schultz. Philip's shocking death--he careens off a cliff in a BMW after munching her brunch--casts suspicion on Goldy. Which of her foes might want to frame her? And who is the critic writing vicious reviews of her cooking in the Mountain Journal ? The plot spins along in good-humored fashion, while Goldy continues to whip up goodies for events like a disastrous "aphrodisiac dinner" for eight and a barbecue at which her luscious dessert smashes on the floor. When Arch vanishes, Goldly panics, but the author makes sure that all enigmas wind up in solutions that will surprise and please.

From AudioFile

This is the perfect audiobook for gourmets who love murder mysteries. The listener can enjoy descriptions of delicious meals while digesting clues. Reader Barbara Rosenblat sounds just like our Colorado caterer heroine should sound, and the other characters are also well portrayed. While this will be a popular selection, it's true that the listener must be patient and listen to lengthy descriptions of family problems and kitchen disasters. The last tape contains the caterer's recipes. It would be more useful to include a printed list of recipes in the cassette case instead of on tape. D.L.G. 2.0étoiles sur 5 Not so tasty, Mai 17 2004

I enjoyed Davidson's first culinary mystery, but this one left a bad taste in my mouth. The method of murder was just too implausable to be believed. Also, Davidson is really stretching it trying to make us believe a caterer in a small Colorado town happens to bump into so many people with scandalous pasts, murderous intentions and access to various poisons. Arch and Tom Schultz both annoy me. I don't know what Goldy sees in Tom, and Arch needs a smack across the mouth! Someone needs to shake Goldy, come to think of it, for letting her son get away with so much!

Too bad. I really wanted to like this series, but I'm not inspired to read any more Davidson novels.

4.0étoiles sur 5 Not bad!, Avril 1 2004
My first attempt at the Goldy Bear culinary series, and I enjoyed it much more than I expected. Fast moving, with interesting twists and a eclectic assortment of characters. I'll definately go on and try others in this series.

4.0étoiles sur 5 twisting Rocky Mountain roads and plots, Aoû 25 2003
Par Karen Sampson Hudson "Karen Sampson Hudson" (Reno, NV United States) - Voir tous mes commentaires
(REAL NAME)
"Dying for Chocolate," one of Diane Mott Davidson's earlier Goldy Bear Schulz culinary mysteries, will not disappoint her legions of fans. In this one, single-mom Goldy and her young son Arch are living on the third floor of the Rocky Mountain mansion of retired General Bo Farquhar, who is still fascinated with the bombs and weapons that dominated his career as a terrorism expert.

Goldy comes under suspicion---was her food that was responsible for the auto accident that killed her suitor, psychiatrist Philip Miller? She has been neglecting another suitor, detective Tom Schulz, but he comes to her aid and the two come closer together as they attempt to figure out what has happened and why.

Recommended light reading, will put a smile on your face!
