Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

This absorbing third entry in Henderson's Uncommon Heroes series exemplifies why Henderson, a wildly successful CBA novelist, is dominating this market's paperback fiction bestseller list. Darcy St. James, aka "Hound Dog," is a strong yet vulnerable retired top-notch spy for the CIA. When current events pull her back into active duty, her path crosses that of Chief Petty Officer and Navy SEAL Sam Houston, aka "Cougar." Their romance, while inevitable, is endearing; Sam has "always prayed to meet an interesting woman," and he finds one in Darcy. There's a bounty on Darcy's head, however, and the suspense builds as she eludes her attackers throughout the novel. Darcy is admirably cast as a strong, career-minded, middle-aged woman a combination that is rare in CBA novels. Henderson has conquered a problem she had with heavy dialogue in previous novels and also cut down on the dense military jargon without losing the flavor of the series. The story is chock-full of fresh details, fine descriptions and unexpected plot twists. It's not without pitfalls, however: the amount of Scripture swapping that goes on between Darcy and Sam may feel a bit awkward to all but the most hardcore evangelical reader, as will numerous italicized conversations with God. There are some unusual terms not referenced in the glossary ("chocolate chip cammies"); a retelling of September 11 is rather bland and emotionless; and the last chapter feels unnecessary. But overall, this novel is Henderson's best work to date.

Book Description

For CIA officer Darcy St. James, the terrorist attack on America is personal: Friends died at the Pentagon. She's after a man who knew September 11 would happen and who chose to profit from the knowledge. Navy SEAL Sam "Cougar" Houston is busy: The intelligence Darcy is generating has his team deploying around the world. Under the pressure of war, they discover the sweetness of love, and their romance flourishes. But it may be a short relationship-for the terrorists have chosen their next targets, and Darcy's name is high on the list... --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful as Usual!, May 5 2004
By char (WASH DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: True Honor (Paperback)
I enjoy reading but believe there are too many good Christian writers out there to read much of the secular trash today. I used to think it was safe to go to my church library to get good reading material--WRONG!! They are interested in getting best sellers, etc. I enjoy a good novel that keeps my interest without the foul language, the sleeping around, etc. Don't get me wrong-- sometimes there is a purpose to these topics in the book-- like observing how the Christians around them have witnessed to bring them out of their sinful lives. Think you know what I mean. Dee Henderson is one of those authors that I can count on for a good clean story--exciting and clean. True Honor was no exception. It is a wonderful love story and both main characters happen to be Chrisitans. Throughout the entire book both Darcy and Sam look to the Lord for guidance and strength throughout trials. If is evident from the first moment they meet that there are "sparks" between the two of them. Do they act on those sparks by hopping in and out of bed? No! This is a thrilling story of espionage, danger, murder, terrorism, friendship, relationships, families and patriotism. It is also current-- as Ms Henderson's story begins just prior to that day in history we recently lived thru--9-11. An easy read that you won't put down until you are finished.

5.0 out of 5 stars Third time is another charm, Feb 24 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: True Honor (Paperback)
I really liked this book. Being a stong Christian and an avid supporter of the US military, I found it very refreshing to see both Christianity and the military portrayed so well. Henderson is a skillful writer and knows how to weave a good tale.

The only bad things about this book I can see are a few minor mistakes when it comes to military protocol, but those mistakes in no way take anything from the book.

This is my favorite Uncommon Hero book so far and I'm looking forward to the next one when it comes out.

Hi! Once again it's a Christian Romance Reader who feel in love with the story before even knowing the slant of the book...!!! I read Dee Henderson's THE RESCURER (#6) and this last so far of the UNCOMMON HERO TRIO, (#3). I think I should statt at the beginning of the series and work my way forward... (Don't you?) I HAVE all the books in both series. ANYWAY!! I LOVE Dee Henderson and you will too! A real bit of shining sun....!
