Why Glen Cook isn't one of the most famous fantasy authors is just beyond me. I have yet to read a book of his (Black Company, Dread Empire, Star Fishers, and some Garret) that wasn't great.

This book is a rebinding of the earlier books of the Dread Empire. The wierd thing about the Dread Empire series is that it isn't about the Dread Empire. It is about the smaller nation states to the west, and some great, interesting recurring characters.

Since I'm not a writer I am a loss for how to explain how good these books are. All I can say is I've introduced several friends to these books and we're all quite frustrated when we can't get an out of print book by Glen Cook. Hurray for these reprints!
