Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Bestseller Feehan's steamy and dreamy 18th Carpathian novel (after 2006's Dark Celebration) explores the erotic allure of ancient shape-shifters, Brazilian rain forests and vampires. Manuel Manolito De La Cruz, one of those dark, irresistible Carpathian hunks who can only thrive with one woman by his side, has found his life mate in MaryAnn Delaney, a Seattle counselor for battered women who flies to his Brazilian family compound to help a pregnant rape victim. It takes a while for MaryAnn to accept Manolito's love, as Feehan, with her usual expertise, draws out the foreplay between the two. Feverish jungle encounters with Jaguar-men and MaryAnn's shocking discovery of her inner werewolf add spice, while growing tensions in the Carpathian world create other problems. Feehan's combo platter of danger, fantasy and wild, uninhibited romance continues to sizzle. (Aug.)

From Booklist

Manolito de la Cruz wakes to a living nightmare. Voices condemn him, he is racked with an unnatural hunger, and somehow he has bonded with a life mate whose name he doesn't even know. MaryAnn wants nothing to do with the Carpathian way of life, but her conscience won't let her leave Manolito's spirit lost in limbo. As the two look for a way to save him from his enemies in the shadow world, they uncover threats not just to Manolito, but to his entire race. The eighteenth installment in Feehan's popular series is somewhat disjointed and sometimes perplexing, but longtime fans of the Dark novels should enjoy the trademark sexy alpha hero and the story's evolution. 3.0 out of 5 stars Lyndak, Feb 12 2008
By Lynda K "lyndak" (BURLINGTON, ONTARIO Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dark Possession (Hardcover)
I like Christine's series however this novel could have been so much more than it was. The hero could have embraced both worlds, instead it stuck to the formula ending where the heroine gives up all she is to enter his world. Rather than them both being more and stronger from the union, (ie: Manolito adding the strength of the wolf to his Carpathian self, with MaryAnn retaining her wolf strength and new Carpathian identity it felt like they both became less. Manolito would still have been Alpha, and MaryAnn could have become Carpathian willing to give up all but not having too.
The books are becoming too predictable which is a pity as Christine is an amazing writer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Quanity over quality, Dec 17 2008
By Astrid (Tecumseh, ON.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dark Possession (Paperback)
I am huge fun of Ms. Feehan's books and I have the whole collection of the Dark series, Sister series and her Mind series. It is extremely difficult for the author of this magnitude to write every story well but lately I find her Dark series getting weaker and boring , the same story repeating itself book after book . I think ,perhaps it is time for Ms. Feehan to end this saga and concentrate on something else . The demands of the publishing houses probably force the author to " produce " certain amount of novels a year to be publish but this kills the whole excitement of writing the new story and is clearly visible in her latest "productions".I do really hope that the next novel will be better than this one.For sure, I will not buy the hard cover and will wait till paperback is available. Better , save your money and use library one.

4.0 out of 5 stars The De La Cruz's brothers never look so tempting until now, Oct 26 2007

This review is from: Dark Possession (Hardcover)
I waited impatiently for this book but ironically I forgot about it for some time until it was giving to me as an early gift and once more, I was not disappointed. I have been a fan of Christine Feehan from the first Carpathian novel and own most of her novels. I for one was not disappointed and establish this book a great addition on my shelf. In here we have our hero on the verge of becoming a vampire; Manolito De La Cruz is called back to his Carpathian homeland and unexpectedly finds his destined life mate, MaryAnne Delaney, who has no idea of the lengths that Manolito will go through to keep his mate.

Well after reading this I found the characters to be strong, absorbing, and very hard to ignore in different ways. I did wish, however, for more of a continuance of the story from the "Celebration". Like what happened to Manolito from the time he was stabbed till he woke to early in the rainforest? How did he manage to convince Mary Ann to take a journey with people she didn't know? What exactly did Gregori do to bring Manolito back - and (while I understand the concept) what exactly did he do during his journey to the tree of life to retrieve Manolito's spirit. Since this spirit journey has great deal to do with the actual story line, I wish that it had been better explained. I enjoyed meeting Vlad and his life mate in the shadow world, but wondered why Ivory wasn't there with them. Is this another story? Is she really dead? Enquiring minds want to know or am I asking too much.

I liked meeting some of the new old ones for pretty much the first time. There will be readers (dedicated fans really) that will be put off by Feehan's direction. And this story definitely threw in some new factors that hadn't been really mentioned in previous books. I'm sure if you loved her other books and actually pick this one up, you're going to love it. A must read for paranormal lovers and romance lovers alike. This book along with her other work makes you feel you're actually a character taking part in the story and not just reading it at a distant. This book draws you in completely and keeps you there and if you lucky it might even take you away. I wouldn't mind reading Zacharias' story next but here's hoping.

2.0 out of 5 stars Such a disappointment
I'm a longtime Feehan fan and eagerly await her next releases. This one was a huge diappointment. The secondary characters were pretty interesting and the subplots intriguing. Read more
