From Publishers Weekly

Australian friends return from a camping trip in the outback to discover that enemy forces have invaded the country and imprisoned everyone in town. A gripping tale, told with Marsden's customary incisiveness. Ages 12-up.
Copyright 1996 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From School Library Journal

Grade 8 Up?Australian teenager Ellie and six of her friends return from a winter break camping trip to find their homes burned or deserted, their families imprisoned, and their country occupied by a foreign military force in league with a band of disaffected Australians. As their shock wears off, the seven decide they must stick together if they are to survive. After a life-threatening skirmish with the occupiers, the teens retreat to their isolated campsite in the bush country and make plans to fight a guerilla war against the invaders. Writing in a distinct voice and showing rare intelligence and sensitivity, Ellie recounts their courageous battles against the Goliath in control of their land. She also records her feelings and observations about the romantic partnerships that develop within her small circle of friends, and shows how they mature and blossom during this time of crisis. Though readers are left wondering whether these heroes and heroines will survive (one is severely wounded at the end of the novel), Ellie's uncommonly honest and clear narration makes this coming-of-age adventure a story they won't forget. Fast-paced and provocative, it's a natural for book talking.?Jack Forman, Mesa College Library, San Diego

5.0étoiles sur 5 Awesome!!!, Mars 28 2005
Par Megz (Over the Rainbow) - Voir tous mes commentaires
This is an amazing story, I found it at the library and picked it up, thinking it was not going to be very good. I was setting it back on the shelf and the librarian laughed and told me it was one of her favorites. She encouraged me to read it and i did. I must say that i have never been happier that someone convinced me into something in my life. These books are my favorite now and i recently bought the whole series. I love the fact that i can relate to Ellie so easily (her and Corrie sound just like me and my best friend) These are my favorite they leave me thinking about little things that mean so much. Ex. We kill caterpillars and complain there are no butterflies. That is so true and i love it. Anyway i encourage everyone to buy this book it's a work of art and is wonderful for us teens to beable to say to our parents, "See i told ya'll we were good for something" lol. Seriously it's a great book in fact the whole series is and i encourage for everyone to read not just teens.
Thx
Megz

5.0étoiles sur 5 Great survival story, Nov. 11 2002
Par Un client
Tomorrow, When the War Began is a very interesting book. John Marsden wrote it in 1995. Ellie a teenager from Australia is bored to death over the summer. She decides to get some friends and take a camping trip in the outback brush. Upon returning home, something is terribly wrong. The dialog is great, the way he has the characters talking in true Australian language. Another part I like is how John has Ellie have internal passion for two different boys on the trip.
If you enjoy an entertaining with some suspense, and survival, you should read Tomorrow, When the War Began. I really enjoyed this book, and would of never guessed the ending. I think you will enjoy it also.

5.0étoiles sur 5 A Great Piece Of Australian Literature., Nov. 8 2002
Par Zach (NSW, Australia.) - Voir tous mes commentaires
This series, (Seven books in total), is the best series I have ever read.
The story remains interesting, with enough action to keep young adults interested.
The threat of war is always an interesting topic to read about, especially when a group of teenagers are thrown into the mix and work together as a team -- this series is, at times, very inspiring, and the attention paid to character detail is very much appreciated and gives the series great credibility.

P.S. These reviews are for opinions, not for summarised versions of the novel/s themselves.
That last review from Jessica made this book sound bad, since she doesn't have a firm grasp of the English language, and therefore cannot construct a favourable review.
