5.0 out of 5 stars House of Night Book 2, Sep 20 2007
By Detra Fitch (USA) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Zoey "Z" Redbird is a fledgling vampyre. She has managed to finally settle in at the House of Night finishing school. Z has been Chosen by the vampyre goddess, Nyx, and she has already kicked vampyre ghost butt. Yet still Zoey has a strange feeling something is wrong, like the stillness before a tornado or storm.

Zoey's Imprint with Heath remains and she still finds herself caring for the mortal teenager. The mutual attraction between Z and Erik, also a fledgling, remains as well. Yet Zoey is finding herself intrigued by Loren Blake as well. Loren is a part-time, temporary professor (of poetry class) at the academy. Zoey is sure he cannot be more than five or six years older than she, however, relationships between students and teachers are prohibited.

Zoey is about to conduct her first Full Moon Ritual as leader of the Dark Daughters and Sons. Zoey's life is full and she has little alone time for herself. It soon becomes apparent that she better make some time for a new problem. People Zoey knew from her prior human life are disappearing. When and where their bodies are eventually found, as well as the cause of deaths, point to the House of Night. To save all the humans and vampyres she cares for, Zoey must face a betrayal that could break her heart, if not her very soul. May Nyx protect her!

***** If you have not read the first book, MARKED, then I highly suggest you do so before beginning this title. If you do not, you will still be able to understand what is going on; however, you will not be privy to some references of Zoey's adventurous past and markings. Believe me when I say this series could be categorized as either Young Adult or Fantasy. It does not matter if you are male or female, this series will enthrall you against your will. Authors P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast are a dangerous writing duo with poisonous pens. Highly recommended. *****

5.0 out of 5 stars A great sequel of a unique vampyre tale, Dec 2 2008
By SH (Toronto, Ontario) - See all my reviews
Betrayed by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast is the second novel in the House of Night series and it was great. The entire book was so suspenseful that I had to finish it immediately. Betrayed goes over the main parts that a reader may have missed from the first book, Marked, so that anyone can start reading the series without having read the first book. This is definitely a vampyre series worth reading, since it is so unique from other vampyre tales that you will enjoy its creativity.

Unlike the first book, Betrayed actually leaves the reader with suspense and curiosity as to what would happen in the next novel, Chosen. I liked how there were hints given in this novel, through the characters' actions as to what may be a problem in the next novel. Once you start approaching the end of the novel, you will hope that the novel could have been longer.

Zoey Redbird is getting used to the House of Night as the new high priestess in training. There is a new professor that will only be staying the year, Loren Blake, the vamp poet Laureate, who is gorgeous and seems to like her. Then there's Erik Night, the guy who Zoey is dating. And then there's her ex-boyfriend, Heath Luck, who she still seems to have feelings for. How will Zoey ever decide who she wants as her boyfriend?

There are high school boys that Zoey knew that are going missing and are being found dead with a loss of blood and multiple lacerations. Being chosen by the vampyre goddess Nyx, Zoey feels responsible to find out who or what is killing them. Discover the terrible secrets that are being hidden by people in the House of Night.

With paranormal fantasy, suspense, adventure, and some romance, what more could you ask for? I definitely want to continue the House of Night series, but I hope that the rest of the books in the series are released soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Taste of What's to Come...., Mar 19 2009
By Denise L (Calgary, Alberta) - See all my reviews
Heath's relentless pursuit and Loren's apparent flirting causes conflicting emotions in Zoey that overshadow visions of dead fledglings. Disappearing football players deliver police presence, as House of Night inhabitants become suspect. Eavesdropping uncovers gut-alarming knowledge about Aphrodite and Neferet establishing further conflicts and alliances. Pre- and post-Dark Daughter rituals prove revealing and heart breaking for Zoey and her close-knit circle of friends.

-Authors' attempts to "catch up" new readers on content of previous book was VERY annoying.
-Story laced with "tidbits" that will prompt further reading.

These books are honestly addicting! I hope the Casts are fast writers!
