5.0étoiles sur 5 A great novel, a diffent style, Jui 18 2001

This book by Julia Gray has some great elements of fantasy writing and is well written. The characters are appealing and likeable and the plot is original around a common one.

I seemed to like it better than Eddings style. It is similar to Eddings, The Redemption of Athalas but with greater language and a better world. Julia Gray has created an intriguing world and character base. I can't wait for the next book!

2.0étoiles sur 5 a competent but uninspired fantasy novel, Nov. 25 2000
This is the first book in a series called "the guardian
cycle". While the author isn't a bad writer, and it's a pleasant
book, it's not really anything new to rave about. It's almost a
how-to on Fantasy writing.

You have a lost-prince-hero, who goes on
a quest and aquires magic. His evil twin brother who is going to
inherit the throne. Along the way Terrel (the hero) meets all the
right people in the right places to advance his quest. His
Prince-going-to-be-king brother Jax, gets more evil every time you
read about him and starts making the hero's life difficult.

While
not a terrible book, this book did not grab me enough to want to
bother with the rest of this series, my guess is that it would
probably be better suited to younger readers and I wouldn't be
suprised if the author has written this with this group in mind.
