Book Description

There are no monsters.

Myth-busting ethnologist, Sheba Reynard has made it her life's work to prove that is true. But while exposing hoaxes, she's hiding from the frightening shadows of her own past. In order to find the missing pieces of her memory that continue to haunt her dreams, she must face the truth behind the nightmares . . . a truth that may mean madness or even death.

Frank Cobb knows monsters are real. He's pursued a wily vampire into the jungles of Peru, but are his motives purely business—to bring the creature back for government research—or for a completely personal revenge? What he didn't count on, was an annoyingly strong-willed woman getting in his way.

Forced together by circumstance, one must surrender their quest if the other is to survive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Superb Midnight Book.... Thrilling Series, Jun 20 2001
Well Nancy has done it again.. slightly different this time but features Frank Cobb from Midnight Redeemer. I loved this book and of course the irritating Quinton Alexander ( vampire ). I adore how her books and have the whole collection. Frank has been given another job to do.. Go to the wild jungles of Peru and protect Sheba Reynard an Enthnologist. Both of them have their own agendas. Story is exciting and I read this book in one sitting.. Nancy's books are among the best vampire stories written with a twist... her charactors come to life.. This is a must if your'e collecting the Midnight series if not - it can be read as an individual book.. Although a particulary nasty vampire is featured this is not a romance between a vampire and human but about two people who one is a believer Frank Cobb and one who is not Sheba.. But very entertaining and thank you Nancy for giving us Franks story. Can't wait for the next one.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Hunt For A Vampire . . . ., Jun 19 2001
By Carolyn Christy "Caro" (Fairhaven, Ma. United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Midnight Shadows is the latest in Nancy Gideon's popular Midnight series. It is not to be missed.

Sheba Reynard is a scientist, an ethnologist. Her job is to research local myths and legends. To find the truth behind ignorance and fear. Yet she is hiding from her own past and the shadows that continue to haunt her dreams. What is the truth behind her nightmares? She repeatedly tells herself that monsters are NOT real. But are they??

Harper Research is very concerned over the numerous killings that some claim aren't just random killings. They can't afford to have the hysteria mount fearing that they will no longer be welcome in Peru. They need to continue with their research. Yet as the killings grow so does the fear. All of the victims throats were torn out and their blood drained dry. They suspect a vampire is behind these killings but they want proof.

Frank Cobb (remember him from Midnight Redeemer?) is renowned for his . . . skills. Harper Research sends him to Lima, Peru to hunt this killer and to destroy him. He is also ordered to protect the scientists from this unseen danger.

Sheba is terrified to go back to Peru. No happy childhood memories await her there. Only death. Yet she cannot refuse when a collegue, a childhood friend, beseeches her to join him. Quite unwillingly, fearfully, she goes.

From the start, Frank is drawn to Sheba. He senses her growing unease. He tries to get her to confide her fear to him while she desperately tries to maintain her belief that monsters aren't real. Only he knows better. Monsters are very, very real. He has dealt with them first hand and now seeks his own form of revenge. An old enemy once again surfaces and so begins the hunt.

Nancy Gideon has penned another excellent read. The story was fast paced with plenty of mystery, horror and romance. The ending of the book was not what I was expecting. Totally caught me off guard. It was brilliant!!

Order yourself a copy and join Frank as he hunts for a vampire. :)

3.0 out of 5 stars My Thoughts...., May 31 2001
By A Customer
I have to say that just from reading the book description, it seems a bit weak. I can't say that I would personally go out and buy this book, I may wait until it comes to my Public Library.
