Book Description

Collection of 10 short stories originally published in Interzone. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

From the Publisher

Ten years ago I would never have expected to be publishing an Interzone anthology. I was too much in awe of Interzone. I wanted Interzone to be publishing me (which it did). And now we come full circle.

Interzone is the UK’s leading short fiction science fiction magazine. As David Pringle says in his introduction:

“The ten authors represented in this anthology all made their first, or near-first, story-sales to Interzone. If the magazine had not existed to publish them, their careers would have taken rather different shape -- and in some cases might not have happened at all. And the ten people included here are just a few of the scores of new, or fairly new, writers that Interzone has encouraged in its 18 years of publication.”

Those authors include names like Stephen Baxter, whose contribution (a sequel of sorts to H.G. Wells’ classic The First Men in the Moon) provides the title to the collection, and Alastair Reynolds, whose first novel Revelation Space was shortlisted in 2001 both for the BSFA and the Clarke Awards.

This latest of Interzone’s collections is a showcase for the fresh talent it has helped on its way over the last ten years -- stories of space opera, far-future fantasy, parallel worlds and time travelling assassination, all showing the range and depth of the magazine and its authors. Interzone has done more than any other magazine since New Worlds to launch the careers of today’s sf writers, including myself, which makes it an especial pleasure to be able to return the privilege.
