Veteran veterinarian Brunner points out that "while most…highly developed consumer products come with instruction manuals, dogs do not"; he remedies that situation with this cleverly arranged and eye-catching little volume. Organized like a standard set of operating instructions (but with much cuter illustrations, by Paul Kepple and Jude Buffum of Headcase Design), the book takes readers through a "parts list," an overview of makes and models, home "installation," programming (i.e., training), fuel requirements, maintenance and more. Brunner’s advice is straightforward and easy to understand, and it covers—if sometimes only briefly—just about any situation a dog owner might face. The authors highlight cautionary tips, and provide diagrams to illustrate processes such as trimming a dog’s nails and transporting an injured dog. With this guide, readers will find it easier to get a handle on their complicated canine.

Average pet owner to professional trainer - you NEED this book in your library. In fact, you no longer need a library at all...this is the book to reference no matter what your canine question or concern. Easy to read and charming illustrations that offer a plethora of informaton covering any aspect of owning, caring, or training a dog. As a companion dog trainer, "the dog owner's manual" has become the most important book I will require my client's to read. Bravo Dr Brunner and Sam Stall!

What a great book! Having a few "models" myself, this book caught my eye and I enjoyed it from cover to cover. I heard "The Cat Owner's Manual" will be following it shortly. If it's anything like this book, I'll be buying a copy for my Mom and her cats to enjoy!

Great basic book for new owners of dogs. Truly a "how-to", the book walks the new owner step-by-step through choosing a dog type, introducing new pets to various members of the family (human and non-), equipment, training, and many other topics.

The manual is entertaining, from its design (the illustrations look like Ikea did them, but the instructions are clearer) to the mock-tech writing style. The result is an informative, easy to search and use reference book that will be useful to every dog owner for the length of the dog's life.
