Review

"Bob Green is not only a member of Tom Brokaw's 'Greatest Generation,' which fought and won WWII, he's also one of those people whose lives make West Texas legends and reality one and the same."-Dallas Morning News"

Product Description

This remembering of the Tenth Army of the Pacific Theatre campaign is recounted by Bob Green, then a 20-year-old Second Lieutenant of the 763rd Tank Battalion attached to the 96th Infantry Division. The invasion, launched on April Fool’s Day/Easter Sunday, 1945, began the last major battle of World War II, fought as war in Europe ended and President Roosevelt died. Three months later, the Okinawa arena was declared secure. Bob Green’s personal accounting of the war and letters home are fascinating as well as touching.  His amazing recollection of events makes one feel as if it happened yesterday. The book is richly illustrated with archival photos from the US Army and from the author’s personal collection.

In the older countries of Europe, it wouldn't be unusual for someone to be born, live out his life, and be buried in the same place, but in our more mobile American society that is rarely done. Read the first page
