Product Description

From Amazon.com

British actor Tim Roth and the rapper Tupac Shakur are an unexpectedly charismatic and refreshing duo in this off-beat buddy movie. Closer than two brothers, these junkie musicians vow to kick their habits after a soul-shattering New Year's Eve. Gridlock'd is fueled by characterization, of which there is plenty, as the two play off one another with such finesse you would never know Shakur had been a relative novice to the acting profession. Off-beat humor lightens a bleak reality as these outcasts run smack against a brutal bureaucracy. Except for a tired subplot meant to jazz up the action, director Vondie Curtis-Hall employs an inventive approach in this sadly ignored theatrical release. --Rochelle O'Gorman

Review

Vondie Curtis-Hall's corrosive film about two strung-out jazz musicians attempting to kick their heroin habit has some fascinating insights into that process but is thrown off course by its uncertain tone. Late rap idol Tupac Shakur and Tim Roth star as the musicians who decide to kick heroin after witnessing the overdose of a singer friend Thandie Newton. The director attempts to crossbreed a horrific vision of the lives of these two characters with a gallows humor about their predicament, but the dramatic scenes of suffering are so wrenching, and so well-played that laughter is often impossible. Much of the film is taken up with the characters' futile attempt to get help from various drug-treatment facilities, and their bizarre debate about whether they should stab each other in order to be admitted to a Detroit hospital drug program is a satiric high point. The surprise of the film is the charismatic performance of Shakur, who was murdered after the film was made. He and Roth have a terrific rapport, and for their work alone the film is worth seeing. But for anyone who has witnessed the ravages of heroin addiction, and the threat of violence that lurks in its shadow, the wisdom of introducing a comic note is at least debatable. ~ Michael Costello, All Movie Guide

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun And Entertaining - Tupac & Tim Roth Play It Well., Jul 20 2004
This review is from: Gridlock'd (Widescreen) (DVD)
With a decent plot and very little in the way of action, it is amazing that this film works so effectively. Basically a day-in-the-life tale following the misfortunes of two drug addicts, Spoon (Tim Roth) and Stretch (Tupac Shakur) as they desperately try to kick heroin habits and avoid the unfortunate attention of a local gangster.

The dialogue is quick and funny, and the two leads are very impressive. Shakur is a true revelation and Roth does his usual swaggy/cool style even with his character's boundaries. The film tries to be moral at times, but due to the comedy - just isn't. With a great soundtrack and a live performance at the end from the rapper himself, Gridlock'd succeeds magnificently.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tupac & Tim Roth plays very convincing as 2 drug-addicts, Jan 18 2004

This review is from: Gridlockd (VHS Tape)
Tupac & Tim Roth plays very convincing as 2 drug-addicts trying to kick the habit.

Vondie Curtis Hall really should make more movies, couse all fits like a glove: the acting, camera-work, the editing, the score all are supreme.

The story is really good, and even people who aren't fans of Tupac can't deny that his acting isn't great, becouse it is.

I'll ADVICE EVERY MOVIE FAN TO WATCH THIS ONE
