5.0 out of 5 stars Her voice is still smooth as silk, Jun 14 2004
By Mr. Wynn (State of Confusion) - See all my reviews
While Richard Carpenter took time off from working on music, Karen Carpenter decided to record an album without her brother. The songs here vary from disco-ish to ballads. Some reminiscent of theh songs she recorded with Richard and others were a completely opposite of what she was sued to recording. Karen shines through it all!

This could be her "adult" album. None of the schmaltzy songs that she had recorded before. She stretches her horizons on this CD. I love it! One of my favorites.

My most favorite song is MY BODY KEEPS CHANGING MY MIND. The vocal arrangements are incredible!

5.0 out of 5 stars MORE Feminine, Younger, and Cheerful Karen Carpenter, April 29 2004
By A Customer
I was hesitant to buy this CD for months, but now I realize that I shouldn't have been. This CD is great. This isn't the same OLD Carpenters slow songs and ballads, but upbeat, fun, fast, catchy songs from Karen Carpenter, and not Richard. Richard controlled Karen's whole life, and the only thing she felt that she could have control over, was her weight, but on this CD she could FINALLY control things and have them her way.

You may not care for disco, but Karen makes it fun to listen to. The only words I can describe for it is "upbeat" and "fun", that is what Karen can do. My favorite songs are
****Lovelines
****If We Try
****Making Love In The Afternoon
****My Body Keeps Changing My Mind

"My Body Keeps Changing My Mind" is probably my favorite. I KNOW for a fact that these songs WOULD have been hits in the 80s. Karen's higher voice makes her sound more young, feminine, and cheerful. She sounds more liberated on this CD, than on any Carpenters CD. "Make Believe It's Your First Time" sounds better here than the Carpenters version. Karen's voice is faster and stronger. Karen was meant to sing. She was going to be a superstar singer with or without Richard.

This is singing done by a woman with a better-than-average voice. She had a pleasant voice but not an outstanding voice. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Just Average
I hate to agree with Richard, but a lot of this album certainly doesn't do Karen justice. True, it doesn't sound like the Carpenters but then again IT'S A SOLO ALBUM. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars The greatest alto that has ever lived
Listen, Carpenters fans, this isn't a Carpenters CD, this is HER CD, and hers only. Yes, it is dated, yes it is old school, but stop for a second and listen. LISTEN. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great SOLO album, from K.C.

5.0 out of 5 stars Think Karen Carpenter Not The Carpenters

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth buying, but not a standout
First let me say that I love Karen, so I am admittedly biased. But then anyone reading this review probably does too, so it's okay. Bottom line: she really did need Richard. Read more
