Born Eithne Ni Bhraonain, this classically-trained pianist was kid sister in the musical family that became Clannad, joining the Irish band in 1979 but dropping out amicably three years later to pursue her own muse. This music, produced in the mid-'80s as the soundtrack to a BBC series, was released as her debut in 1987 and promptly ignored--yet its mix of atmospheric soundscapes and Enya's lush, layered vocals, sung in both English and Gaelic, is the template for her subsequent global hits, beginning with Watermark the following year. --Sam Sutherland

This is the first Enya CD I ever bought. It sold me and I have been a big fan ever since. Every song is a winner.

Supposedly, listening to Mozart's music helps you concentrate, retain information and give you a calm, balanced state of mind. When I'm writing, Enya the Celts playing in union with the rain outside brings out my absolute best. Creativity, mystery and beauty, evoke into you all that the music is itself.

This is a gorgeous CD. The music beautifully reflects the Celts, from it's fiesty brutality to it's lovely and inspiring Pagan beliefs. However, the same ideas and sound 14 or 15 times over and over again do get a bit tiring. For meditation music, this is perfect. To listen to as a musical piece, it gets boring. I recommend Clannad, it's better.
