5.0 out of 5 stars A great recording. May it remain available!, Feb 12 2002
By A Customer
This disc affords the listener an opportunity to hear Stokowski's own return to this symphony after more than 35 years in which he neither recorded it nor performed it. History aside this recording is top-rate in every regard. Stokowski brings a riveting and very different approach to this piece. You have to experience Stokowski's unique reading, which is not directly comparable to the other classic recordings of Ormandy and Ashkenazy. It is amazing to think that Stokowski, already in his 90s, could still muster such sizzling energy from an orchestra.

You will be delighted with the recording quality. The recording quality equals the sound quality found on Andre Previn's recordings of these symphonies from the same early 70s era. The Vocalise is a great filler piece. The duration of the music is around 50 minutes, but is still a good value since the disc is at mid-price.

I highly recommend this disc without reservation to any interested collector. I only hope that this disc does not get pulled from the market as it has true artistic and historic merit.
