Product Description

From Amazon.com

Tarkan has enjoyed a Ricky Martin-style popularity in Turkey since the release of his second album, Aacayipsin, in 1994--it sold 2 million copies in Turkey and Europe and foreshadowed a string of outrageously successful albums. His 1997 release, Ölürüm Sana ("I Would Die for You"), sold 2 million copies in Turkey alone, 1.5 million being preorders. So it's no surprise that this 28-year-old star with hunky good looks opens his latest CD with the sound of a smoochy kiss on "Simarik" ("Spoilt"), one of Tarkan's most recognizable singles in Turkey. It's a killer tune, too, soaked with the heavy beats needed to keep bodies moving on the dance floor while the landsliding violins of rai build emotional tension. There are several magnetic dance tunes here, mostly collected from his earlier albums, with "Bu Gece" ("Break Free") and "Sikidim" ("Dirty Dancing") among the strongest and most popular. What's intriguing is that Tarkan is not just another pretty face; he was classically trained in Istanbul and penned most of the album's songs. Add the notion of challenging traditional Islamic values with such lyrics as "Don't dance so sexy / Oh, the way you move, you drive me crazy" or "Come on, let's make love / Close your eyes," and you've got the sort of national sensation that parents might hate but the kids will love. --Karen K. 5.0 out of 5 stars don't i wish?, Jan 10 2004
By Tomm "Rookie" (Upstate, NY United States) - See all my reviews
I am a local small town DJ always hunting for a unique song... "Sikidim" is one of them. I have a great following, and they trust me to bring them the best. They are confident in my tastes. One wish...if only there were an English version! My friends love this song as it is, but.. If a version exists, please write me @yahoo. Thanks a billion!

5.0 out of 5 stars New Math: 3 "Hots" = 5 ++ Stars in Pasadena Tx., Nov 22 2003
By W. Huckaby (Pasadena, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
Heard Turkish music for the first-time-ever at a recent festival (bought a Tarkan CD). Yes, believe it or not, a few people in
Pasa (by gosh red neck) dena Texas have a keen appreciation
for quality music regardless of the culture. In my opinion,
this new kid Tarkan's,Universal Latino CD should be a "#1 with a bullit" even here in the good-ole U.S.A. The subtle, yet upbeat, theme of the CD is accutely refreshing (not over dancy yet keeps you fixed on whats gonna happen next). Tarkan's octave range is magnificent. First impressions of the CD - Exotic, Slick, Mesmerizing, Hot, Hot, Hot (3 Hots = 5++ stars in Pasadena!! I have a feeling that before long some producer will seriously promote this young artist stateside. When that day comes, Julio I. and his brats, as well as, Ricky M. and others better be ready for competition!! In discussions about Tarkan, I learned that international music most often is slow in reaching our shores. It was suggested that Cher's "Believe" CD floated around Europe about three years before we got it over here. So go figure!! TARKAN, YOU GO BOY!! AND GOD BLESS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Turkish music!, Jun 25 2003
By A Customer
You don't have to understand Turkish to give this cd the 5 stars it deserves; the music, the compositions here are just wonderful (+ very emotive and not repetitive as the most dance songs are ). Buy this album in addition to KARMA, you won't be disappointed. Instead, you will enjoy a euphoric musical journey that perfectly blends Turkish music with modern elements and maintains a universal musical language, which really won't require you to speak Turkish at all.

I will also recommend an other Turkish artist, SERTAB ERENER (who won this year's Eurovision Award). Her voice is just mesmerizing, and her songs will sound far more lovelier to those who are not into the energetic dance tunes of Tarkan. Try to get any album she has recorded, I got TURUNCU (meaning "orange") from Amazon.com (very impressive!).

And always look for good original music...
