4.0 out of 5 stars Harder and faster, the way they were meant to be heard !, Sep 15 2003

(REAL NAME)
On September 19, 1998, the 'Fantastischen Fuenf' played their last concert in front of their home crowd in Hagen, Germany. This double CD is the original radio broadcast as transmitted by radio Hagen on that day, which means, there has been no remastering or restoring done before releasing this live album. Therefore, there are many 'sound flaws' which could have been ironed out, had SPV (the record company) taken a bit more time and pride before releasing this great document of one of the best German live bands ever. Also, I could have done without the 'dorky' comments of the radio DJs in-between some of the songs. But enough complaining. The bottom line is, underneath it all, Extrabreit sound excellent on this CD. Once the sound mixer got all the knobs in the right position (around song number 4), they will 'rock your socks off'. While many of their older songs were produced in a 'Neue Deutsche Welle' friendly way, none of this 'happy' sound remains. Extrabreit sound hard and mean and songs like 'Jeden Tag, Jede Nacht', 'Raus aus meinem Kopf' and especially 'Polizisten' are performed here in new improved, fantastic versions. Kai Havaii's vocals are brilliant and the guitar work of Stephan Kleinkrieg and Tom Schwoll is outstanding. And one of the highlights is, when Hagen's 'most successful child' - Nena - joins the band to perform 'Komm nach Hagen'. A brilliant album - that shows, how good this band really was. A definite 5 star album, if it wasn't for the sloppy production of SPV.
