5.0 out of 5 stars It's Out Of This World !!!, Sep 18 2002
By "lukerobbins" (London, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Go hide in the Kitchen - ALF has come to DVD !!! He's funny, cranky, witty and sarcastic .... and he picks his nose. That's ALF - the wacky alien from the Planet Melmac, and star of the cult sitcom that has been adored by millions all over the world since it debuted in 1986. This is the first time the ALF sitcom has appeared on DVD and Canada's "Video Service Corp" have treated it with the respect it deserves. Underneath the glossy packaging lies a disc packed with 3 special sitcom episodes, each lasting an hour - "Try To Remember" see's ALF lose his memory after electrocuting himself with a blender in the bathtub, "Tonight Tonight" shows ALF guest hosting the NBC Tonight Show and remembering some of the clips that have made him one of the worlds top pop culture icons. Finally "ALF's Special Christmas" is a yuletide tale where ALF finds himself touched by a terminally ill girl staying in hospital and sets out to help her. You want extras ? You got em, and they saved the best for last. None other than the ALF'er himself has taken time out of his busy schedule to provide you with a hilarious commentary and many additional extras have also been included. With ALF on the comeback trail, what better way to spend your day than with what is hoped the first of many ALF DVD's in your player and a succelent Kitten roasting tenderly in the oven !

5.0 out of 5 stars ALF on DVD! Great, but we'd like more!, Nov 27 2002
By ALF (Melmac) - See all my reviews
I was pleasantly surprised to learn that "ALF" was coming to DVD. "ALF" is one of the funniest 80s sitcoms and unfortunately, it's tough to find on TV these days.

VSC's one disc release contains 3 one-hour episodes (which run about 48 minutes, no commercials!). "Tonight, Tonight" (in which ALF hosts the Tonight Show in place of Johnny Carson) and "Try to Remember" (in which ALF suffers from amnesia) are decent, but they are clip shows, which give you little teases of all the great episodes from over the years.

"ALF's Special Christmas" is wonderful, although its dramatic tone greatly differs from the sitcom's traditional lightweight comic spirit. Nonetheless, this is the one episode with a continuous storyline, and it's the best episode on the disc, certainly worthy of seasonal viewing.

The good news is that ALF is on DVD. The bad news is that the three episodes included here are merely a tease, and do not capture the spirit of the hysterical half-hour traditional episodes.

I know I speak for many when I express my wishes for complete season DVD sets of "ALF"! There were only four seasons of this show, and I'd be willing to buy them all if Video Service Corporation or another studio released them to DVD. In the meantime, I recommend you picking up this disc. The ALF audio commentary is a hoot, and the video/audio quality impressed me for a small studio release.
