2.0 out of 5 stars A sad widow, Mar 30 2005
The musicians all perform very well. However the acting and scenery left me feeling that this was really a very sad widow; an elderly person who laments her past. There is little merry about this widow.

1.0 out of 5 stars too much, Nov 20 2003
By A. Grossman (Florence, Oregon USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a terrible WIDOW that is greatly overproduced. Whatever is enjoyable in it is destroyed by a overblown, gargantuan third act in which the kitchen sink could even fit. There is not a good WIDOW available on DVD yet

5.0 out of 5 stars Where Is It?, April 12 2004
By Dr. John Little (Louisville, KY) - See all my reviews
I asked that this video be sent to me. You sent the Australian Opera's "Merry Widow" instead. I returned it and requested that you send me the San Francisco Opera's. I have not received it. Three months have gone by since I returned the faux edition. John Little

From the 2 versions avalable on DVD(the other one being the Australian one with Joan Southerland) this seemed the obvious choice and I don't regret it. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars THE Merry widow. WOW
Yes this production has much in common with the Australian version, however, much if the sillyness found in the Aussie production has been eliminated, or tamed down, the video and... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
This production is not nearly as stylish as the Opera Australia one. A better Danilo and a more believable Anna for sure. Read more
