Product Description

From Amazon.com

Dave Matthews doesn't exactly seem thrilled about this release. But how would you feel if you made an album with a producer you didn't like, dumped it, and then woke up one morning to find it leaked on the Internet and available at every bootleg stall in New York City? That's pretty much what happened with "The Lillywhite Sessions," the unreleased, darker predecessor to the blockbuster Everyday album. Rather than turn their back on the fans, however, Matthews and company returned to the studio to do the job right. On Busted Stuff, they revive those solemn songs with diligent intensity, creating lovely swaths of melancholy and transcendence. Elegant tracks like "Grace Is Gone" and "Digging a Ditch" replace the dreary gloss of the last album with dazzling intimacy, and even the band's usual tendency for meandering jazz-rock flights is kept in check by the sheer weight of the material. Impressive stuff, in spite of what Matthews apparently thinks. --Aidin Vaziri

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite DMB studio album, Aug 28 2004
By Steven Fisher (Vancouver, BC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Busted Stuff (Audio CD)
This is my favorite DMB studio album, but it should be noted that the DMB live albums are of better quality than the studio ones. Particular favorites on this album are Grey Street, Where Are You Going, Raven, Grace Is Gone, Big Eyed Fish. Bartender is a listless song in its debut here, made much better in later (live) albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars grace is gone, May 13 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Busted Stuff (Audio CD)
yeah this is a wicked awesome cd, but the song grace is gone is about God's Grace, not a person named Grace. If you like this, you should download the uncut version, the Lillywhite Sessions. Its basically all the songs before theyve been buffered and re-edited.

3.0 out of 5 stars Half and Half, April 27 2004

This review is from: Busted Stuff (Audio CD)
I am hesitant to write a review of this album as I still don't have a firm opinion after almost two years of listening to it. Perhaps it's because I want to like it as much as I have liked all the other Dave Matthews Band albums. Off the top of my head I feel it is a mixed bag. There are some very good songs here. Grey Street, Where Are You Going, Raven, Grace is Gone and Bartender are of note. The rest just seem flat and uninspired. It is still much better than 95% of the stuff that is sold in record stores these days, so if you are thinking of buying it, do so. Just don't expect the quality of the other records in the DMB catalogue.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst album
To think, this band could have ruled the world. And yet, here we are, churning out pale retreads of former glories. Stick with "Crash" and buy nothing else. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars DMB continues to plummet in the studio
