Product Description

From Amazon.com

The 2003 debut of Chappelle's Show on Comedy Central marked a high point for the cable channel, and now the entire, wildly creative first season can be seen, with hundreds of bleeps removed. That's not to say Chappelle's Show is perfect entertainment: there are too many moments among the 12 episodes here that descend into pointless scatology and booty fever. But for the most part, Chappelle, a talented comic slowly growing into greatness, is trying to push the sketch-humor envelope and succeeds at surprising us with original concepts and merciless execution.

The merely clever material includes "National Geography's Third World Girls Gone Wild," basically an update on those topless-native-women gags of yore, and Chappelle's "Educated Guess Line," in which the sage comic eschews psychic powers to logically deduce racial insights from his callers' questions. Far more wicked is an in-your-face satire on such autobiographical film fare as Antwone Fisher and 8 Mile, in which Chappelle plays himself ascending from street hustler to rapper-comedian to bona fide savior of America. The best thing here, however, is a parallel-universe version of The Real World, in which the usual racial proportions on MTV's workhorse series are reversed, thrusting a token white guy into a Hoboken houseful of crazy African Americans. There are also laughs in "Ask a Gay Guy with Mario Cantoned," as well as a sketch about an "inner-thoughts cam" and a nasty piece about Chappelle's Make-a-Wish visit to a dying child, which decays into a cruel video game competition. Overlooking the series' weaker material, this is outstanding television comedy. --Tom Keogh

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Hilarious! The Funniest Sketch Comedy Show On TV, April 8 2004
By A Customer
I love this show and now I FINALLY OWN A COPY!!!! Anyway, this T.V. show is hilarious and very courageous. I admier Dave. He's taken a lot of critizism because of this show and he still goes strong and even makes the sketches more daring. This DVD contains all 12 episodes from season 1 and they're uncensored and unblurred!(the way Dave wanted them to be.) Bonus material contains audio commmentary from Dave Chappelle and series co-creator Neil Brennan, bloopers and deleted scenes, and unaired footage of " Ask A Black Dude" with Paul Mooney. Here's the episode guide(the one that's from the packaging!)
episode #1
Dave Chappelle plays Americas most vicious blind white supremacist and unveils racy "bootie" videos starring Nat King Cole. Also contains the hilarious Pop Copy skit.
episode #2
Dave Chappelle plays a crack addict who visits an elementary school to give an anti-drug speech.
episode #3
Dave shows a girl who curses her (...) the error of her ways and shares hilarious outtakes from "Roots".
episode #4
Dave awards women with great "NY (...)" and predicts the chaos caused by reparations for slavery.
episode #5
Dave reflects on "Great Moments in Hookup History" and dares viewers to "Ask a Black Dude"
episode #6
Dave imagines if "The Real World" did a season with an all-black cast and one super white guy.
episode #7
Dave takes a realistic look at "Pretty Woman" and "The Matrix and introduces the Wu-Tang Clan's new finacial consulting firm.
episode #8
Dave uncovers racism among Hollywood's animal stars, and Tyrone Biggums returns when his friends hold an interventon.
episode #9
Dave takes Japan by storm in the sci-fi adventure "Blackzilla" and stars in his own video game.
episode #10
Dave presents the Histry Channel's coverage of great inner city gang wars from the 1980's
episode #11
Dave sees people's inner thoughts and freaks out when a little kid beats him at video games.
episode #12
Dave shows us what happens when couples try "Trading Spouses" and introduces a family-friendly brand of pot.

All 12 episodes are hilarious and I recommend this DVD to anyone whos a fan of Dave.

4.0 out of 5 stars No Music, but Plenty of Funny, Mar 22 2004
By A Customer
Despite the bafling lack of musical guests, it's all here: Tyrone, the crackhead motivational speaker, Clayton, the blind black white supremacist, and Tron, the new world's richest man, who owes his wealth to playing dice after we all finally got our reparations!

Dave is an equal opportunity destroyer, making light of virtually every stereotype in our culture and creating a few new ones of his own. This DVD is a must-buy for anyone who enjoyed watching season 1 last year, and it's at least a must-see for those who jumped on the bandwagon in 2004.

Beware--some will find this extremely offensive. Profanity, nudity, and racial slurs are all fair game on Chappelle's show, and this completely uncensored DVD is not for the faint of heart. And forget it if you find poking fun of ethnic groups to be racist (or "reverse" racist) in the least; Dave's fans feel like the equally distributed ribbing brings diverse groups together, and this show is for fans only.

But if you do decide to buy, you're in for a riot. And considering how many people are claiming to be Rick James nowadays, you're also in the majority.

I just watch the Chappelle Show when a friend brought it over. A group of us watched the entire season in one night. It changed my sence of humor and the why I think about jokes. I then bought season one and started showing everyone I know. This series is not only halarious but it is fun. You can tell theat everyone on the show is having fun just making the skits. I love this show and wish they would make more. Why'd you leave Dave, WHY!!??
