About the Artist

Ivana Santilli, former member of Juno Award-winning soulful-funk trio Bass is Base, released her first solo effort Brown in 1999. This independent release won major acclaim and generated two Juno Award nominations for best new solo artist and best R&B/soul recording.

Brown, a project that Santilli built herself from the ground up, is a sensual blend of drum 'n' bass, soul and R&B wrapped into easily accessible pop songs. As composer and arranger of the entire album, and producer of three tracks and co-producer of 10 others, Ivana Santilli is a major Canadian talent.

Brown features fellow Canadian R&B Juno Award-winner Glenn Lewis on the cool-sounding track, If I Ever Fall (Part 1). The album has brazilian-flavoured pieces, tastes of her French-Italian roots, and a voice full of sensuality and heart.

This Toronto native started working in the music world in the early 90's with Bass is Base, and went solo in 1996. Heavily influencing her music are the likes of Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, and the late Tito Puente, who she opened for in Toronto in 2000.

You'll be even more amazed if you hear her live, which I did. She could sing, play the piano, trumpet, bongo drums all in one song!!! Back to the album, if you like funk, soul with R&B feel, this is an album for you. Interesting, song #7 If ever I fall featured a then unknown Glenn Lewis whom I first thought was Brian McKight. I predicted that he'd make it big, sure enough one year later, he became a big star on his own. Unlike many albums where you'd only like three or four songs, I can honestly say that I liked all the songs on this album. I look foward to her follow up album. I am only irritated that the Canadian radio stations don't support her enough... I'd love to see her with international exposure and success...

I think Ivana is a talented artist, her music is soothing,I would recommend this CD to anybody, I'll be getting her next CD.

I too, purchased this album when it first came out and have to say that, to this day, I have not stopped playing it. It's one of those timeless cd's that ends up being part of your musical repertoire when you have a party or when you get home and are in that 'mood'. Ivana is one of those rare gems in the music industry that we should treasure

Waiting on the release of her next album! :)
