Product Description

From Amazon.com

With her breakthrough 2002 debut, Let Go, Avril Lavigne tried to market herself as the bona fide alternative to tarty teen queens, Britney and Christina. Her guitar-pop hits were irresistibly bratty but the whole "Complicated" teen pose was a little hard to swallow, especially since two songwriters called the Matrix--who had at least twenty years on the Canadian singer--fed her most of the material. Having had the chance to live a little, Lavigne returns to make good on her angsty image with Under My Skin, an album rippling with delightfully dour melodies and heartfelt lyrics about loneliness ("How Does It Feel") and fractured relationships ("Don't Tell Me"). Is it clichéd? Sure. Will it scare off her necktie and t-shirt wearing fans? Possibly. But there's nothing quite as satisfying as watching a teen-pop icon actually reveal her soul. --Jaan Uhelszki

Album Description

Avril Lavigne's 2002 debut "Let Go" gave young women a defiant voice and set it to music they could rock out to. Fourteen million albums and eight Grammy nominations later, the Canadian chanteuse returns with "Under My Skin."

"Under My Skin" opens with the dramatic tracks "Take Me Away" and "Together," which set the scene for the kick-ass guitars and radio-ready chorus of "Don't Tell Me," a song of willful female empowerment that picks up where "Complicated" left off. From there it's a one-two punch of three-chord guitar licks ("He Wasn't") and head-bopping optimism ("Who Knows") alongside swirling, brooding melodies ("Freak Out") and moody tracks ("Forgotten," "Nobody's Home") that reveal a darker side of Avril Lavigne.

Working with producers Butch Walker (of the Marvelous 3), Raine Maida (of Our Lady Peace), and Don Gilmore (Linkin Park, Pearl Jam), Avril co-wrote the dozen introspective songs on this new album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Avril, Dec 27 2004
By Fan of music (Canada, Alberta) - See all my reviews
If you like Avril Lavigne's music at all, and even have her first cd, or if you don't and like her hits on the radio, GET THIS CD!!!!!!!!!!! It is awesome, all of the songs deserve to be hits, and she's incredible, writing her own songs, and being such a great singer. Her music is addictive and will keep you wanting more, and thats how music should be, you won't regret this purchase, don't let her personality get in the way of the awesome music that she can create and did create.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good one Avril!, May 25 2004
By iMBPWMz "iMBPWMz" (Miami, FL, USA) - See all my reviews
After her successful release of "Let Go", Avril has made it again. After listening to all the songs in her new CD, I got really impressed. The lyrics are much more meaningful in this CD and her voice has matured, just like Michelle Branch did in her latest album, "Hotel Paper". Here is a review of the songs:

Take Me Away: 8/10: Cool for those who like screamy and angry songs.

Together: 8/10: Again, a bit screamy but very catchy.

Don't Tell Me: 9/10: First single, great song (Chorus is really catchy)

He wasn't: 8/10: Okay song.

How does it feel: 8/10: Nice ballad out of this CD.

My happy Ending: 8.5/10: Story-telling song, very pop.

Nobody's Home: 9/10: Great song with powerful lyrics, meaningful and good music overall.

Forgotten: 8.5/10: Cool song.

Who Knows: 7/10: It was okay but I didnt liked it that much.

Fall to Pieces: 7/10: Same as ^

Freak out: 8/10: Great song for a bad, angry moment.

Slipped Away: 9/10: Another great ballad like "How Does It Feel"

Well after averaging everything, I came up with a 4-star decision. Very well-done Avril ^_^ I really recommend this CD to everyone, you will like it, trust me ;)
