Product Description

From Amazon.com

Created at least in part due to popular demand, Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars will provide some closure to fans who were dismayed by the demise of the popular science fiction television show in 2003 and campaigned mightily to bring it back. Indeed, this miniseries (originally broadcast over two nights on the Sci-Fi Channel) will likely appeal primarily to the Farscape faithful, as the somewhat convoluted storyline may prove baffling to the uninitiated.

A brief bit of backstory explains how John Crichton, an astronaut from Earth, went through a wormhole and ended up on Moya, a living spaceship, with a motley group of aliens, including D'Argo (Anthony Simcoe), Chiana (Gigi Edgley), various puppet characters (designed by the Jim Henson Company), and Aeryn (Claudia Black), Crichton's love interest, who's expecting their first child. As The Peacekeeper Wars begins, our heroes find themselves in the middle of a war-to-end-all-wars between the lizard-like, implacably evil Scarrans and their rivals, the Peacekeepers. Crichton is the lynchpin in all of this, as his knowledge of "wormhole technology" is coveted by all, including his old nemesis Scorpius (Wayne Pygram), who captured and tortured Crichton back in season 1 and with whom Crichton must now form an uneasy alliance against the Scarrans.

Over the course of the three-hour miniseries, we get lots of weird- and cool-looking aliens, some nice sets and special effects, plenty of battles, and lots of portentous talk about the fate of the universe--nothing especially original, but all presented with outstanding production values. There's drama and action, love and betrayal, tragedy and triumph, war and, ultimately, peace, with a suitably spectacular ending (and a nod to Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey). With a 30-minute "making of" documentary among the DVD special features, The Peacekeeper Wars is a fitting way to end the Farscape saga. --Sam Graham

5.0 out of 5 stars A Bittersweet Farewell, April 5 2009
By Sarah L. Bell "Lover of Stories" (Saskatchewan, Canada) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
After SciFi abruptly cancelled Farscape, fans were left wondering, "What the heck happened?!?!" While imperfect, and nowhere close to the desired fifth season that fans wanted, Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars is a solid attempt to answer questions, finish story lines, and bring to a close what was an amazing television series.

It has the look and feel of the series, thanks in large part to Brian Henson, who had been involved with the series right from the beginning. All the original cast members are back, from Ben Browder and Claudia Black to Wayne Pygram and Paul Goddard. The humour and chemistry is as sharp and quick as ever, and even though it never could compare to a final season, it is an attempt worth seeing.

5.0 out of 5 stars stunning ending to the most fantastic series ever!, Sep 22 2006

The Peacekeeper War (as it is called in Australia) is a gripping, fantastic ending to the brilliant, humorous, Farscape series, tying up all the plotlines in a frenetic ride to the end. The Scarans and the Peacekeepers clash head to head with John Crichton stuck in the middle, the ultimate weapon still lodged in his head.

I've never been a fan of Star Trek, Stargate, Andromeda or any of the other series, being as they are about a group of (mostly) Americans going off to other planets etc. and solving all the problems of the intergalactic universe (praise the humans) with often cheesy sets, bad costumes, corny dialogue and boring characters. Farscape is none of that.

The only human in a diversely-populated universe, Crichton is caught up in dilemmas he does not always have the answers to, and learns a great deal from his "alien" friends. While this extra-long movie finale is primarily to keep all us fans happy (anyone else will have trouble understanding the dynamics between characters and their history), it is just a small part of a phenomenal series that took sci-fi/fantasy to a whole new level (and perhaps I prefer this show to the others because it has such a strong fantasy element - all to the good!). So buy, sit back, watch and enjoy... and enjoy... and enjoy...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Thing, May 19 2007
Farscape remains my favourite ever television show and I rewatch it all the time. There was supposed to be a fifth season so the fans had to raise a huge ruckus that helped persuade financial backing for this fantastic miniseries. The Peacekeeper Wars carried on the story for us all - beautiful action packed, character driven and emotionally charged story telling set in a world a long wormhole away from home for our hero the sexy John Crichton and his band of alien friends. Loved every second of PKW and still pining away for more....please.
