Review

The first animated feature from Marvel and Lionsgate has kept the look and framework of the award-winning Ultimates comic book intact, but is hampered by cheap animation that is two steps below DC's weekly TV shows of its time. Clocking in at 71 minutes, the film is mercilessly short, even if it feels longer than it actually is. The storyline itself has been streamlined, with none of the original's political subtext rearing its head for the younger viewers. Moms and dads might want to take notice of the rating, as the movie earns a PG-13 for action and violence, which equates to some scenes on a World War II battlefield and superhero brawling. The rating leads to an interesting point of why this picture was made in the first place -- it's a bit too hardcore for the youngsters and it certainly won't play that well to most readers who were hoping for more of the grit and, well, quality of the book. With Marvel trumpeting their big-money acquisition that allows them to produce their own films, it would be best if they set the bar at least a little higher than this passable production. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, All Movie Guide

At last, the Avengers are on DVD. The 70 minutes long movie is Super-Heroes packed and is a delight for 40 years old teen-agers to watch. The history-filled extras are worth the price of the box (I paid more than the asked 12$). Ation is fast-paced, but not to the detriment of the storyline.

The only drawback is that they have modernized the characters a bit too much. As an example : Tony Stark is still a playboy, but he now has a drinking problem. Also the women (WASP, BLACK WIDOW...) are somewhat overly sexual in their appearance. But once, you have digested this, it is a great trip into the world of MARVEL comics

this is a pretty good animated movie.it might be a bit too intense for
younger kids,but it should be OK for older preteens.some of the fights
are amazing,but there's also some drama,which is handled well.i like
the choice of villain for the movie.i thought it represented a very
dangerous threat,and the filmmakers presented it in a credible way.i
also liked the great mix of characters with different skills and
abilities.plus,the movie highlights the value of friendship and team
work,so there is a bit of a lesson there.it's not preachy though.the
movie is short,(less than 75 minutes)but there's a lot packed into
those minutes and the movie doesn't suffer from the short running
time.for me there were only two real drawbacks to the movie.one is that
one or two of the voices don't seem to fit their characters very
well.most of them do though.in fact,some of them are brilliant.the
other minor complaint i have is that the movie does start off very
slow,and takes a bit of time to get going.but once it gets going,it
doesn't stop until the end.over all though ,this was a fun and
entertaining movie. 3.5/5
