Product Description

Amazon.ca

Although this "young" band has been together for years, the four musicians known collectively as "Billy Talent" have watched their lives change dramatically since the 2003 release of their successful self-titled debut. The group's videos dominated Much Music while their songs remained on the charts long enough to reach double-platinum status in Canada. On a personal level, two members have gotten married, one had a baby, and drummer Aaron Solowoniuk has admitted in a letter to fans that he has Multiple Sclerosis.

As far as their musical changes are concerned, the most immediate difference on ll is that frontman Ben Kowalewicz sings considerably more melodically than ever before. The CD's first single, "Devil in a Midnight Mass"--a lyrically deft, desperate number about one child's sexual abuse by a Priest--comes to a spine-chilling conclusion, further heightened by Kowalewicz's screams. Three more songs pass, however, before the singer once again lets out his trademark outcry, effectively reinforcing "Worker Bees'" anti-war lyrics. On the instrumental front, guitarist Ian D'Sa continues his metal-infused guitar riffs, though the band's mellower songs ("Surrender," "Pins and Needles") could easily sneak onto pop radio.

Longtime fans will find plenty of familiar elements; producer Gavin Brown has returned, once again focusing on Billy Talent's heavily-staccato'd style, but amping it up significantly, especially on standout tracks "Sympathy" and "Covered in Cowardice." All in all, ll is a great showcase of their thrash-meets-melody style, guaranteeing to not disappoint their devoted fan base. --Denise Sheppard

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, Jun 7 2007
By G. Larouche (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) - See all my reviews

I really wasn't much of a Billy Talent fan until I heard this album. Now, I'm hooked! Ben has really taken it down a notch and traded screeching for actual singing, which is great 'cause he really has a beautiful voice. He also writes great lyrics, and Ian's guitar arrangments are nothing short of amazing. "Red flag", "Fallen leaves", "Surrender" and "Perfect world" are my favourites, but the whole album holds itself together great. Can't wait for the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best thing to hit punk rock in like ever, Mar 18 2007
By jake696 "JBStarker" (St.Albert, AB Canada) - See all my reviews
The band Billy Talent is probably the idols of most people that want to have platinum hits and adoring fans like they have. This new CD they have added to their already amazing collection of punk rock genius. The CD talks a lot about world issues and/or personal issues that peoeple might be facing everybody and expressing that through their wonderful their music and lyrics. Ian(bass, vocal) is amazing on the guitar and Ben has never sounded so good like he nearly perfected his voice to tune out some amazing and unforgettable songs. My favorite song and anybody should download this is "Fallen Leaves" where Ian cranks some of his best guitar stringing compared to anything of the other songs and you can feel the lyrics when Ben starts singing but I know it is a joint effort and they really make it amazing. Good job to Billy Talent and really I can't wait for the next CD.

This Canadian group will impress you again with this new album. Great lyrics, great beats, this CD will make you crank up the volume. A bit less original as the first one, but good continuity! Excellent!
