Product Description

Review

A lot of people probably looked at Meet the Robinsons and thought, "Oh, it's a feature-length Jetsons." Well, that would have been a better idea than what they went with. Disney's second foray into computer animation (after Chicken Little) is a hodgepodge inspired by far-less-beloved pockets of science fiction. Especially with its time travel milieu, Meet the Robinsons' future world resembles the cheerily grotesque zaniness of a Back to the Future II, as an old man with his head on backwards and a cadre of singing frogs are the norm. Perhaps it's impossible to entirely avoid what's come before, but a fleet of sinister flying gadgets seems to have escaped from The Matrix, and there's even a robot butler so similar in appearance to Robots' Rodney Copperbottom, you could call it a rip-off. But the most basic problem with Meet the Robinsons is that it doesn't have much heart. While the film features that most recognizable of Disney constructs -- the young child missing one or both parents -- it can't follow through with Disney's usual ability to produce effortless sympathy for him. You do feel for young Lewis, but as the kid has failed to get adopted after more than 100 interviews, one has to wonder, "Hey kid, maybe it's you." Meet the Robinsons is a narrative disappointment as well. While a good time-traveling epic usually introduces smart conundrums, Robinsons explores these haphazardly and without clear rules. Better to have just set the whole thing in the future and focused on giving depth to that world, rather than providing only disjointed and garish flashes of it. The images themselves look great, but since Disney is no longer the only visually sophisticated shop in town, it needs to tap into another traditional strength -- the writing -- to keeping producing classics into the 21st century. ~ Derek Armstrong, All Movie Guide

"Meet the Robinsons", directed by Stephen Anderson, is an excellent film for kids, and also for the kind of adults that love good animated movies. I am one of them :)

The main character is Lewis, a 12-year old orphan that is a science whiz. Lewis' biggest dream is to have a family of his own, but he hasn't been able to get adopted. When, after a particularly stinging rejection from a prospective family due to an experiment gone wrong, Lewis fails miserably at a science fair, his confidence is crushed and he ready to give up on science. Life has many surprises in store for him, though, among them a trip to the future and tons of new friends, that will teach him that, in order to achieve success, all you really need to do is keep moving forward.

On the whole, I can say that I really liked this quirky and engaging Disney movie. It is a family film with a very good message, that also happens to be lots of fun. Recommended...

4.0 out of 5 stars "Découvrez le futur comme seul Disney peut l'imaginer !", Jan 13 2008
By Vladyk Barnes (Quebec, Canada) - See all my reviews

4.0 out of 5 stars enjoyable animated family fare from Disney (3.75/5), Oct 26 2007

this film has something for everyone,in my opinion.there's
comedy, action, excitement.the movie is also inspirational and
uplifting, but without being overbearing.there are also some references
to other popular movies.i also thought all the characters were
likable,even the bad guy,who isn't really bad.he's more misunderstood
and harmless.he's also fairly inept as a villain,in a funny way.his
plans are basically a comedy of errors.there's a time travel plot at
the core of the movie.and there a few unexpected twists as well.there's
a good moral to the movie, which i didn't feel was preachy at all,a
refreshing quality for this type of movie.and finally,i liked the music
a lot.there are some great songs here, something i find lacking in many
movies.for me,Meet The Robinsons is a 3.75/5
