Enjoyed by four year olds to forty four year olds!, July 29 2008
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Endless Ocean: Dive, Discover, Dream (Video Game)
This game is beautiful, calming and addictive. An hour can go by quickly while you dive through "just one more cave" looking for treasure or an up close look at a goblin shark. And when a huge whale drifts by..... I bought this game for myself since it was rated as violence free and there was no way to die (LOL). I just sit back in my chair and drift through the ocean. Sometimes I explore the beautiful coral reefs with their brightly coloured fish and sea turtles. Other times I risk a night dive into a deep crevice full of shark filled caves. My 11 year old son now makes a grab for the remote to explore ruins, play with sea lions, or look for sharks. And when you interact with the fish you also learn facts about them. The diving part of the game is also easy enough for a four year old to play since you basically just point in the direction you want to swim!

A dream of a game...., Oct 16 2008
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Endless Ocean: Dive, Discover, Dream (Video Game)
Endless Ocean is perhaps misclassified as a "game". Instead, it's an experience, almost an avocation, much like scuba diving itself.
Basically, your character is a professional researcher/diver on a small boat, the Gabbiano. With your neurotic but erudite coworker Kat, you search for information on the living creatures of the Manoa Lai Sea, and the mythology of the native people. How do you win? Well, "winning" is not really a concept that you apply to Endless Ocean. Your reward is drifting dreamily through the shallow waters of the reef, or taking daring plunges to the Abyss, or wreck-diving among shoals of sharks. When not diving, you can train up to three dolphin "partners" in various tricks, or just sit on a deck chair and gaze at the setting sun. It really is the next best thing to diving in real life, and if you like diving, snorkelling, or just learning about realistically-portrayed marine life, you'll be hooked immediately (ok, bad pun, sorry).
It is a violence-free game. So no, you can't blow up the Great White Shark like they did in Jaws, and your most life-threatening experience will come from seaweed. But, when you first glide into a glistening white limestone cave, or watch your dolphins pirouetting under a full moon, the beauty of the images is breath-taking. The gentle music by New Zealander Hayley Westrena is a fitting accompaniment to the lovely visuals.
I've played it over 60 hours so far, and still going strong. Truly a keeper of a game!

Relaxing, beatiful and so different from anything else!, Dec 27 2008
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Endless Ocean: Dive, Discover, Dream (Video Game)
Like others have said, this game is really nice. The music is relaxing. The graphics are beautiful. There is no winning, losing or dying. But what makes this interesting is everything else that is possible in the game, and without having to "win" or accomplish any specific task, there is no stress, so you really get to enjoy the experience of it. I found it hard to believe that I would like this, but somehow they have pulled it off.
I'm looking forward to trying out the Wi-fi connection, where you register friends using a friend code, and then you can go diving with them.
This was a gift, and I'm thankful that I got to experience it. I never would have picked this - but it is really, REALLY great!!
