Synopsis

Mr. Bean -- the stick-legged goofball man-child created by Rowan Atkinson on television in the early '90s, and in the 1997 feature Bean -- undertakes his second cinematic adventure in the comic romp Mr. Bean's Holiday. Growing thoroughly sick of the wet, cold, and clammy London weather, Mr. Bean (Atkinson) finds just the right tonic when he wins a trip to sunny southern France, all expenses paid, with a new digital video camera to accompany him. However, he runs headfirst into a series of outrageous and unpleasant situations, such as winding up in a French restaurant where a matre d (Jean Rochefort) convinces him to eat bizarre varieties of seafood that he's never before encountered, and discovering that the "Very Fast Train" certainly lives up to its name. Eventually, Mr. Bean (accompanied by a Russian traveling companion whom he meets along his journey) stumbles onto the French Riviera and spoils the latest movie production of snobbish, egomaniacal filmmaker Carson Clay (Willem Dafoe) -- little realizing that his own klutzy video footage will accidentally end up in Clay's film and be screened at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival. Unlike the first big-screen incarnation of Atkinson's character, Mr. Bean's Holiday adheres more closely to the formula of the original series by rendering the character almost completely mute. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

Once again, Rowan Atkinson provides us some good time laughing and enjoying a light and relaxing story. I've watched it more than once and have always enjoyed it.

I remember the great sense of anticipation so many people had way back in 1997 when it was announced there would be a Mr. Bean movie. The British comedy series based on his character is pure comic genius, and established Atkinson as perhaps the best silent comic since Chaplin. Alas, "Bean the Movie" was a dissapointment, as it was apparent that the silent comic magic of Atkinson was hard to maintain throughout a feature-length film. And alas, "Mr Bean's Holiday" is also a dissapointment, although not without its entertaining moments. The film provides us with a good euro-trip experience, as Bean fine dines in Paris restaurants, travels by rail, hitchhikes on the countryside and attends the Cannes film festival, all with disastrous results. Definitely worth a go if you're a Bean fan, just don't expect a masterpiece.

"Mr.Bean" was famous during the 1990s when it aired on television instantly getting some attention due to its family humor.Rowan Atkinson's character nearly doesn't talk,instead using groans and Bean let's face it is really stupid and clueless character who always gets in hilarious situations.A first Bean movie was released in 1997 getting mixed reaction and some episodes were released on tape and DVDs in separate volumes.In 2007 Mr.Bean returns to the big screen with "Mr.Bean's Holiday" and as said in the movie's title he goes on a holiday.News of the movie first came out in late 2005 when it was announced and a script would be made,Atkinson who plays Bean has said this would be the last Mr.Bean story he appears in.The film was released in the United Kingdom on March 30th 2007 but we had to wait until August 27th of the same year to see it.The trailers previewed what was to be a funny movie but it didn't turn out all great as i expected much better than what i got out of it.

The film opens with Bean looking at the prizes he won,a ticket to Cannes,$200 and a video camera and you can just feel that something funny is about to happen.It does when he gets in the restaurant and a waiter recommend oysters wich not knowing any better accepts,he then can't eat them but tells the waiter its good and he then pours them in the lady at the next table's handbag in old fashionned Bean way.Then you get the feeling it is going to be a great movie.Then he misses the train and meets a kid named Stepan whom he missed the train because of with whom Bean will become friend,even if he can't get Stepan to like him at first.He then goes at another station and he misses it again while Stepan does catch it.Then,Bean tries to get to Cannes desperatly by hitchiking and other things and will latter get a ride with a girl named Sabine,also going to the annual Cannes festival.As usual Bean is never really lucky and many things happen to him,some funny and some not.

This is really a stupid movie and nothing more.For instance Mr.Bean loses a ticket by getting it stuck on a chicken.At one part in ther movie Bean wakes up in whatn he think is WWII and he takes it so seriously,all that when its in fact just a yogourt commercial!The premiere to wich he go has an awfull movie and Bean goes and screens his homemade movie instead wich is boring and the french musical ending in wich they all sing the french song "La Mer"(that's Beyond The Sea in english).He also gets accused of stealing a kid and the movie is just really a stupid event after the other and outside of a few things is not funny but just awfull and boring.And all those things aren't related to the series or just don't do anything good for the movie.The only thing they did well is that Bean is still silent like in the classic television(not the animated one)series.The concept for it was simple,great and totaly fitted Bean but they didn't do anything great with it fact it turned out pretty bad.

I always liked Mr.Bean but this movie was about the worst thing they did as its rather boring and you get a feel that it is a little long whithin half of the movie.The gags are classic and some really are good including one hilarious sequence but it is nothing memorable that you have to see and its no even worth buying.Maybe a rental but that's about it as you are likely to be deceved by "Mr.Bean's Holiday" and except few moments you won't be thrilled.Same for those who never liked Mr.Bean on television,you aren't likely to enjoy this.This film will seem to you as either 1)funny or 2)trying to be funny but isn't,and sadly Mr.Bean wasn't up to the task this time.There are much funnier movies out there and funnier Bean stuff as well.I don't recommend it at all as i was real disapointed,only die hards of the series or those who don't know better shall see this.It is said to be the last of Mr.Bean and you know what?Its probably better that way.2 Stars.
