Best thing to happen to TV in a long time, but Blu-ray lacking, Mai 9 2009
Chuck is an awesome show with something for everyone with its perfect mix of action, comedy drama and romance and not to mention the various pop-culture references. The Godfather and Starwars, c'mon!
Monday nights is now exclusive to Chuck for me and my family. This show is family-friendly entertainment, and it is smart, witty and hilarious. Just those items would make Chuck a great show, but add to that a great story with powerful dramatic scenes that make us attached to the characters and wow, you've got the best show on TV.
The people that bring these characters to life are not to be forgotten. The ensemble of Zach Levi, Yvonne Strahovski and Adam Baldwin is full of chemistry and transition flawlessly between scenes of humor, action and drama. The supporting cast also provides great bang for your buck and the endless stream of great guest stars are just icing on this delicious cake of a show.
5/5 stars for the show.
Now about the versions, I own the first season on both Blu-ray and DVD and I have to say that although this is my favorite show on TV, the Blu-ray version has very little to offer over the regular DVD version if you own a good upconverting DVD player. The Blu-ray version offers clearer images than the DVD, obviously, but the difference in image quality is minimal unless you sit 1-foot away from your HDTV. Unlike some other Blu-ray movies such as Transformers, Wall-E, etc, the HD transfer of Chuck is just so-so.
Another minor disappointment in the Blu-ray is the lack of Tru-HD audio and only 5.1 Dolby Digital just like the DVD, but it does however have an episodic menu which is a Pop-up similar to a lot of Blu-ray movies (on my PS3 remote I press Pop-up menu)unlike what reviewer 'Trayton Turner "Turner"' mentioned.
I would only recommend the Blu-ray if you must have that marginal gain in image quality, but for most people, I would recommend Season 1 of Chuck on DVD.
3/5 stars for the Blu-ray, 4/5 stars overall

Great show..., Avril 28 2009
Great show, in a great looking High-def format, but unless the problem is my Blu-ray player, there is no episodic menu to puck from! I had to watch all the shows on one disc from start to end, or tray to remember where i was roughly, and fast forward by chapter to the episode that i left off with. Mind boggling in the world of techonology that we live in. This isn't like when DVDs first came out, and no one knew what to do with menus. Still, a great show that looks even better in this format, as long as you can put up with this ridiculous issue.
